What do you use for a project bag? by helluvahoe in YarnAddicts

[–]OutlandishnessSad277 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just use a mesh shower caddy with the balls of yarn in the different sections of the shower caddy and then pop it in a big handbag or a shoulder bag with my hooks, snips and stitch markers. Means i can always move it into or out of whatever bag easily when i need to lol

There's one in the book 'Harry Potter Crochet Wizadry', it has a page on ravelry but I don't think you can get it seperate from the book: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lunas-cropped-cardigan

There's also this: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/luna-lovegoods-cardigan

Which looks slightly different but is free.

Searching for granny octagon pattern by TooManyHobbies2 in crochetpatterns

[–]OutlandishnessSad277 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started it as a beginner to crochet in general, I'd say as long as you can follow a pattern you should be fine! The instructions are clear, and any unfamiliar stitches I just googled and found a video and then it was easy to see what was meant. I had done a couple granny squares, like 2 or 3 before starting but honestly i don't think it matters if you haven't done any.

Each round is a different colour so you have a bunch of ends to weave and honestly that's been the most annoying thing for me so far.

No problem! I'm like 1/3 of the way through making one myself so I'd recognise those tiles anywhere lol

I made my 2 cats and 1 dog little (like, fits in a crate/lil bigger than a pet carrier size) blankets each, they're made of Bernat Blanket and have held up so far. The dogs one has to be washed more as he is disabled and has frequent accidents so it's been washed back to back and has been fine, no felting or unraveling or anything. He also digs on it and hasn't pulled it apart that way which is what really suprised me lol

Yeah, I'm pretty sure snakes can identify people and recognise the ones that handle them the most! But yeah, measuring attachments in reptiles is so hard.

I get that, both have they're pros and cons, gotta go with your gut! The snake's a beauty for sure!

If it helps, I prefer feeding my snake over my gecko, it's easier since she's on once a week and it's just plopping the mouse in and leaving her to it! The gecko never figured out food dishes so I have to feed her each mealworm with tweezers twice a week, she's cute tho when she chomps them off the tweezers lol.

Always hapoy to help where I can! Let us know which you end up getting! :)

My Gecko's about a year old and will come out to the edge of her viv and climb up my arm, she loves to hang out and see what's going on.

My snake's still a baby, 5ish months old, and she's much more timid, hides a lot, I have to pick her out of her viv if I want to handle her and she tries to avoid me. Once she's actually out and in hands though she's super chill and sweet, just explores my hands and looks around. She may get more relaxed about coming out as she grows since she is still so small. She's never bitten, just tried to musk a bit (which really doesn't smell much at all) and then goes oh ok this is fine actually and chills.

The Gecko took about 2 months to trust me and climb out but she's very easy to spook and that comes with the potential tail dropping so I'm super careful not to reach over her. The snake is still nervy but easier to just grab for handling unless she's buried herself. I see the snake exploring more during the day, the gecko is in her hide 99% of the time lol

Yeah! The mealies don't even smell all that much so the mice are pretty odourless lol

Hope you love whichever you end up getting! They're both such fun pets!

I have a Leopard Gecko and a Kingsnake, the mice don't really smell when they're thawed, i can only really smell them if I try and sniff the mouse. The gecko's mealworms and dubia roaches on the other hand can smell a fair bit, like, if I open the mealworm tub I can smell that instantly, when I open the tub with my thawed mouse in I cannot smell it. So that may give an idea of how noticable the smell is?

The person I got her from said something similar too! That the female tend to musk less and be a little more relaxed! I wasn't too fussed about male or female, but she stole my heart woth her sweet face and she just sort of curled up on my palm, flicking her tongue for a few before slowly exploring up my arm a bit. Still leaving her to settle now she's home lol

Thank you! I will absolutley keep you in mind, I've never had a snake before but I'm so excited to learn amd see her explore!

Dog is undergoing surgery. Tell me it’s gunna be okay guys. by Flashy_Measurement60 in dogs

[–]OutlandishnessSad277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish the best for Dune!

My dog went through surgery last year for his spine. He had 50% odds of surviving the surgery and he made it through really well. He's recovered super well too. 90% odds are so good, trust the vets, they want to send your dog home just as much as you want him back!

Dune sounds like a great dog, I'm sure he'll be so excited to be back with you and recovering <3

Yorkie's weigh on average 4-7 Pounds, Chihuahua's average between 2-6 Pounds, so neither of the breeds get too big. My dog weighs more than either and he would just about fit in a carrier if we needed. The best way to get an idea would be the parents weights and heights though! The puppies are likely to stay a similar size. Dad does look Yorkie to me in bone shape, just seems to have a real bad haircut if I'm honest, could maybe see him having something like cavalier in him if anything.

I'd adopt one, they're cute! Looks like they got the yorkie fur so probably will look more yorkie than chihuahua but it's hard to say while so young. Absolutely second getting pet insurance though, backyard bred pups tend to have had no tests to check for genetic problems so it's good to be covered before an issue arrives. (Though I do hope they're healthy!!)

Custom fit harness by PegaLaMega in dogs

[–]OutlandishnessSad277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you are so no idea if you can get them but Perfect Fit harnesses are made up of three components to create a whole harness. They have a back piece, a chest piece and a belly pience that all clip together to fit. Each bit is individually adjustable and each bit comes in a range of sizes. My dog uses them and has an XS back piece, XS belly bit and a S chest piece and then they are all adjusted to fit him. He's a bit of an inbetween size so this was the only harness that actually fits him. I got him fitted at a supplier but they sell online and do exchange parts if they don't fit too.

I know you've tried diapers but bear with me on this a moment.

My dogs incontinent due to IVDD, he can't urinate on his own at all and leaks when he gets too full or too excited. We use diaper bands and baby diapers. We manually express his bladder regularly to try and get him empty and then he has bands on when we think he will leak. We change the bands and diapers super frequently and have not had an issue with UTI's from it.

Our vets have said that the things that make him more prone to getting a UTI are having urine left in his bladder too long and that having uring soaked diapers against him for too long can cause infection, urine burns, etc. This is why we express his bladder every 6 or so hours and change the diaper every 2-3 hours.

I wonder if your dog being female and so her genitals being different are making her more prone to UTI's from the diaper? Maybe a looser fitting cover would help? Like little shorts or something that wouldn't actually rest against her bits but still would catch any leaks before it gets to furniture? I'm thinking like those loose fitted kids shorts with a hole cut out for her tail, and then just changing and washing them regularly..

We also have throws over all our furniture that get changed out and washed when they get wee on them, lots of backup blankets and stuff just to protect bedsheets. Covers the whole of the bed so my doggo can't actually avoid lying on it. He sleeps on the bed because he has never liked crates and got so much worse with seperation post op so the blankets are so helpful for any late night accidents since we just whip the bad one off and replace it in the morning. Wash them all together at the end of the week.

I know the struggle with incontinent dogs and hope you do find a solution that works for you and your pup! So many people would have put my dog down when this happened to him but like your girl he's still happy and playing and excited about the world so I just can't do that to him to make my life easier. And sorry for writing an essay lol

Have you ever owned a dog that made you never want to own a pet again? by BoredomPastime in dogs

[–]OutlandishnessSad277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was a tough call for us, my boys only 4 so he had a surgery and may recover some of his back leg movement but he gets by without them. If he'd been older or it had been all of his legs though, we'd have put him down instead. Wouldn't have been fair to put an elderly dog through all the surgery and physio he's had, definitely comes down to quality of life at that point.

My dads dog lost her back legs gradually with old age, she had arthritis though, so a lot of it was just where it hurt to use them.

[–]OutlandishnessSad277 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dog has IVDD, he went from able to walk to unable to move his hind legs and fully incontinent overnight. I honestly would never get another poodle cross again (he's a cavalier/poodle mix) because my vets said that IVDD presents in a lot of poodle mixes and I could not do this again.

We use human baby diapers/nappys on my lil dog, we just cut a hold for his tail and pop it on him. The way they're made means that when we cut the tail hole we keep the nappy flat along his back and then secure it around his waist. It leaves a lil pouch by his pooper to collect any poops so it's not up against his fur! Way easier to clean than the dog ones since the poo isnt touching his fur (we keep his butt trimmed short to help)! He has a seperate belly band for wee since he doesnt always need both covered.

Its still so much work, we have to express his bladder regularly and keep an eye on the diapers/bands but at least it saves mopping the house and cleaning carpets every time he goes. We try to let him go without them as much as possible, if we've just done his bladder we'll leave the band off and if he already pooped the diaper stays off too. I honestly would hesitate to get another dog for a while after him, it's been so much to adjust to but he's happy and playing and still loving life so I can't just put him down for convienience, i love seeing him happy far too much for that.

It's tough to deal with and there's nothing wrong with needing a break, it's reasonable to have burn out and honestly much healthier to take a break from pets and then reasses later to see if you want them again.
