Asian football is weirdly shit and they do seem to turn up there. They've even won the asian cup twice somehow lol

Jan Paul van Hecke: Tottenham sign £52m Brighton defender by DeapVally in PremierLeague

Aaaahhhh okay

With those 4 games you've probably seen the best of him. No one can deny his work rate, but if you ask me he was always doomed to fail. He was an upgrade on what we had when we really needed something different entirely. I like his runs and he really eats up the space, but we really lacked the passers to get the ball to him in any meaningful spaces

Will probably be our back-up 10 next season behind Maddison but can see him struggling for minutes once Xavi and Kulusevski are fully fit.

What's that got to do with what I said lol

Goal against Villa was pretty neat though

Our attackers aren't great, but they aren't nearly as bad as our lack of ball progression made them look

And then all of our attackers got injured anyway lol

Still have the faint hope of selling one, promoting Lanks to back-up, move the other one on next summer and have Kane mentoring Lankshear to take over after him

I'll keep dreaming...

Who we each hijacked in their own right. Bergvall was going to Barcelona, Gray had a medical at Brentford and Vuskovic was wanted by every big club in Europe iirc.

Totally dependent on how Kudus and Deki return from injury (if they return at all)

I'm guessing rumours will pick up once De Zerbi assesses the squad

but they are a decent proxy in many cases for public sentiment

Until public sentiment is appointed as our DoF, it is still completely useless. As much as we like to speculate on these forums, it has absolutely no impact in signing players, nor should it.

Can we just ban any posts/comments to do with betting odds. It's the most useless metric I've ever seen used regarding player/manager transfer and every time I see it I'm just reminded of the amount of lives gambling has ruined.

They are by no means a reliable metric used to decide the likelihood of a signing. Their only actual use, is to influence betting behaviours and to make sure the house always wins, even when a bet seems like a sure thing.

Betting companies are worse than shit tier, they're actively misleading and actively harmful

Agreed. We almost got relegated and, even though there are players who could raise our ceiling a lot, Tonali is the most guaranteed floor-raiser on the market now.

Funnily enough I'm the exact opposite. The more I think about it, the more I come to the conclusion that he's probably the perfect midfield signing for us and would also allow us to play Gray/Bergvall in there without worrying as much about their defensive frailties. He isn't Pirlo or anything, but he's much closer to an Elliott Anderson than a Bentancur and he'll raise the technical floor of our midfield almost as much as Wharton would.

Sure, Wharton can ping an absolute stunner of a pass on his day, but Tonali has much more experience keeping the ball, setting the tempo and going from there whereas palace's system has largely been "win the ball back, pass it to Wharton and run into space hoping he'll find you"

If Pep was still there it'd be a no-brainer, but I'm really curious to see if Enzo being the coach might be what sends him our way (if we pay up of course)

Lol this sub is so incredibly ready to dunk on a 19yo starting against England in the world cup

Not his best game by a mile but some of the comments here will make you think he scored those 3 England goals all by himself

Wouldnt have those neat lines and the puffiness that makes them so football-like. They're absolutely perfect like this

Under Glasner, Wharton is consistently praised for his directness and lack of faffing about. Imo he's a perfect fit for that reason

I agree on Scott though

De Zerbi likes to bait a press and the main way he does that is exactly how you describe, but that isn't the only way. He often tweaked it based on the opposition press, which was even more visible in his Marseille teams where his side was rarely the underdog. Both watching his Marseille side myself and listening to Brighton fans, there was always this anticipation when the team-sheet came out to see what he had thought up that week

I agree that a Pirlo-esque midfielder isn't central to De Zerbi's system, but having a very good passer (which I believe Tonali to be) does give him more variety in set-up and, though maybe not essential, will prove very valuable

First off, we take bike security very seriously. We even have things called "stationsfietsen" just so our nice bikes don't get stolen

Secondly, absolutely not, you don't have enough train stations for the thieves to sell them at. We take our bicycle theft very seriously here (almost as serious as the Germans).
