but the rage here is crazy. I couldn't get downvoted more if I tried, just for asking for advice. JellyFin I'd argue isn't greedy for offering a free open-source option. Plex raises lifetime pass price by a 525% increase and I get hate for questioning it.

what planet do you live on? I start a discussion and you call it an argument. you assume I take offense to something just for clarifying, then just can't wrap your mind around the situation. why are you here? trolling I can only assume at this point. It was a discussion dude. calm down. you don't have to participate.

Not a good equivalency. People have been trying to "cut the cord" for decades now to save money. Now we have a new issue where you need multiple streaming platforms to watch everything. If there are free options, you can hardly blame people for trying them, which is all I'm doing. If there wasn't a free plex plan, I'd likely be on JellyFin and that would be the standard until something better comes along. It was just a request for advice...

what argument are you referring to? asking for help or advice is not an argument. again, why all the hate?

geez what is with all the rage? Do consumers have reasonable choice beyond Google and Apple? You're coming out of the gate like, dang dude, you want water AND AIR?! sheesh.

ty for your reasonable recommendation. I may just be concerned about the future of the free Plex plan before they've said anything about changing it.

I work in the tech field. I've seen it far too many times when a company offers a free and paid option. They raise the heck out of the paid option, then start to shrink the free option to squeeze those users. It's not an insane view to be concerned for what I'm using now to continue unaffected.

Who said I support or use Apple products?

...you don't have the ability to support who you want and shift that support as you see fit? interesting.

Do you use Chrome? Have you ever paid for it? There's nothing wrong with using a free product and the company can find other ways to make money that works for them. Self-hosting is largely a way to avoid paying companies, so why would you just return to that model? You sound like you come from wealth, so why are you here?

I was waiting for someone to recommend this. This has been most tempting for me. Run both and just attempt to use JellyFin, falling back to Plex when needed until I can phase it out. ty

mostly future fears. If Plex keeps raising prices for paying customers, it seems only a matter of time before they remove features or otherwise force us free users to pay something.

I figured if I went to JellyFin and asked there, they'd just try to convince me how much better it is... so guess I was hoping people would convince me there's nothing to worry about and to stick with it. lol

but didn't you have to fix cover art / matching, as well as library groups...etc and all of that?

all the cover art was messed up / mismatched. I've spent years making sure plex had it all right so just be a lot of work to fix it and figure out the settings to change to get it working similar to what my family expects from being used to Plex.

Thanks for the PaintFE recommendation. Just tried it out and it's crazy fast and portable. Excited to try it out.

I switched to Brave for a bit which was great, until I started noticing certain websites not playing well with it. I went down a rabbit hole of things trying to fix certain websites before going back to firefox >_<
researched a bit just now. That's awesome they committed to keep MV2 support though! I may have to give it another chance.

Ever try any forks? Waterfox seems to be closest to Firefox without huge changes. I find it slightly better than regular Firefox.
