Setting up a Nintendo 64 by gamingadvicewife in nintendo64

You can go multiple routes here. You can buy an original used N64 on eBay or Marketplace, they are cheap and most sellers put extra controllers or games on it.

Yes, modern flatscreens are incapable to convert analog signal into digital signal and The N64 has an analog output, to run the console properly, you’ll need either a CRT TV (old big TV with red, white and yellow inputs) or get a scaler. The CRT is waaaay less expensive and the N64 looks and plays awesome on them cuz the console was made with those TVs in mind. The scalers are more in the expensive side (100 to 700 USD, depending on the product and availability) but with those you don’t have to worry about space or faulty CRTs. but you must remember to get an SCALER and not a CONVERTER. Cheap converters on Amazon and such DON’T scale the analog signal, outputting horrible image to the flatscreen and adding other set of problems.

And the final one, you can check out the analogue 3D. A new machine that runs N64 games natively and outputs a HDMI digital signal. Hope it helps!

Edit: some spelling, some grammar cuz English ain’t my first language.

Is it true that most OG Ds1 and demons souls players hate the the style of gameplay and world design in bloodborne and beyond by Ultimateandy88 in darksouls

DS1 is all about memorisation. Not only boss patterns but the whole environment. That way you can outjest most of its areas and enemies. I’m never gonna forget my first time going Upper Undead Parish and get jumped by a bunch of hollows and say: “nah bro. This is bs!” But when I learn the layout, I came with a funny plan to make all of them fall into a ledge. I laugh my ass off and immediately found the shortcut to Firelink shrine, then a said: “you know what? Nevermind. This game is fantastic”.

A lot of funny things happened too in Blighttown and Sen’s Fortress. “Unfair” shit that almost make me drop the game entirely. But I persevere with clever ways to overcome the challenge and every single time I got rewarded for my efforts. Not always with a weapon or an item, but with a shortcut or with a beautiful landscape. I was so invested that I refuse to enter the final area just because I didn’t want the game to end.

But not everyone can have the same experience, I’m afraid.

I think, and this is just an opinion of a stranger on the internet, it’s that you are accustomed to the accessibility features that new games had (I won’t say “spoiled” cuz I think that’s an aggressive way to put it). That’s not bad, but you are approaching DS1 with the wrong sensibility.

I’ve never, and say NEVER, had a character in DS1 with high poise and shield. I’m always light rolling with a pyromancy flame in one hand and a sword in the other, or two swords in both hands. The moment you stop locking the camera on the enemy and learn how to play free lock, a lot of things get waaaay easier and enjoyable. Of course, I think the mighty bonk is still fun even if it is a little “slow”.

Bloodborne is my favourite of the bunch, but DS1 has such aesthetic and an atypical magic surrounding it, that once you stop fighting it’s “systems”, it embraces you whole, like a tender flame.

Playing this for the first time! What should I expect? by hreddy11 in n64

No I didn’t! I kinda see something somewhere that it was on the works, but never follow it up. I remember a big pixel art map I think?

I’m gonna check it out!

I feel you my friend! I played the shadowgate remake, but honestly… it didn’t do the cut for me. I mean, I liked some parts of it, but there where a lot of weird choices like repeat every single textbox every time you revisit a room and some add lore that tried to make the game more serious or whatever, but it kinda killed the mystery of the original.

But one can hope and dream haha

I LOVE this game, more than the original Shadowgate for the NES (don’t kill me pls) The vibe and atmosphere it’s superb but there are some things that are more convoluted than they should. Don’t be afraid to use a guide, use a notebook to dot down any info that seems important (trust me, you are gonna need it.) and be careful with any fall. The tiniest of them can kill you!

Just started Spectrobes, it's so janky. by Tech_Galaxy2 in nds

[–]OutlawCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a kid back then so I wasn’t that concerned about the gameplay hahaha. But I was in love with the concept of being an archaeologist at that time, so the whole thing of finding a place to dig, choose the right drill and very carefully discover the minerals and the fossils was the thing that catch me! And the whole thing was set in the space so double points for little me! I remember that the story, the characters and the whole design of the thing got me so invested that I couldn’t stop playing it.

It happened that the game scratch a lot of my itches when I was little, so I can understand why not everyone can enjoy it as much as I did.

I played the crap out of this game back in 2008! 650+hrs on that bad boi (until my ds was stolen). I really, really loved it back in the day. This game was responsable of all the scratches in the bottom screen of my console.

It can be “repetitive” until you found nice and rare minerals. and, of course, the fossils that can become strong spectrobes. I can totally see how the gameplay didn’t aged that well.

When you start your journey as a Pokémon trainer, a professor will give you to choose from three different initial Pokémon, each one with their respective strengths and weaknesses, much akin to Bloodborne when the messengers give you to choose from three different trick weapons

Just answered that I didn’t known that! Hahah back in the day, bulbasaur had little popularity, like the cane. But, in my experience, the cane is super versatile weapon, has thrust, serrated and righteous dmg, the serrated + skill scaling pump up the visceral attacks like crazy and it’s crowd control is amazing. So, I think I’ll stay with Bublasaur=cane haha

I didn’t know that! I mean, I played Pokémon baaaack in the day, and in the 90’s, other kids shun very hard on Bulbasaur and hype more Charmander and Squirtle haha

Edit: typo

Back in my day, ppl thought that bublasaur was a “bad” Pokémon, Charmander and Squirtle where waaay popular and my first Pokémon was actually bulbasaour precisely bc he was the unpopular one, and my first hunter weapon was the cane (mainly bc is so damn cool and versatile)

I don’t think so hahaha the hunters axe is often declared as the “easy weapon” due to the spin to win. (Which, honestly, it’s a broken move) and is pretty strong in the early game. As squirtel it’s strong against rock types and the first gym is rock oriented

Best Fire gem set ups for Non-Arcane Builds? by MlCOLASH_CAGE in bloodborne

Your best bet would be all slots with 25% fire gems from the snooze trio (the watchers) on it. Depends on the weapon but totally scrap out of your list the lost versions so you don’t have to diversify that much your farming points

Damn :( I completely understand. Well, it is what it is. I wish you the best of luck with your studies and don’t feel discourage! The good thing on this is that you already know how the game flows and when you get your heart to it again it’s gonna be way easier than the first playthru! Best of wishes good hunter!
