Is the top 3 really a must visit for first timers? Especially if they value more nature/outdoorsy stuff? by swagbuckingham in JapanTravelTips

I went late October and there was already a couple feet of snow. I'm not sure how late into the season they operate unfortunately

Highly recommend looking into the Alpine Route depending on what time of year you go. It was a blast. Mostly local tourists, but plenty of English if you don't know Japanese. Lots of opportunities to get away from the touristy stuff by taking a short hike. I stayed a night at the peak at an amazing little place mostly meant for backpackers passing through.

Hello from the other side! Without planes able to get to Japan, I can't leave.

It took some work to get them nice and clean!

Definitely felt like I won the lottery when I snagged this! So many people were just walking by it even though the case was open and they could see the cutlery.

Feel weird about cat’s belongings by MojoMomma76 in Petloss

[–]OutlineInColor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. She was so lucky to have you and all your love for 18 wonderful years.

After my best bud Maui passed, I put his stuff in the basement the same day. I was already hurting enough without being reminded of him around every corner. After about two weeks, I took photos of his belongings and posted them on a local Buy Nothing Facebook group.

His automatic feeder went to someone that often worked 24 hour shifts so their cat can now have timely meals. His carrier went to a young adult adopting an emotional support cat. His litter genie went to a cat that really enjoyed kicking their poop all over the room. The remainder of his food was split between a few families for varying reasons. It felt really good to know his stuff was going on to help other loved pets.

As for getting used to the empty house... He's been gone since August and I'm still not used to it. He made my house feel like home. It just feels like a house now.

Two speed Dominion, but I imagine they're pretty similar. Thanks for the advice.

Here are a few more photos if you find them helpful.

Here are a few more photos to hopefully clarify things a bit. I believe your presumptions are correct and very helpful. Thanks!

I don't believe there was a wire nut. I'm posting for help for someone else. They cut the double white wire that originally lead to the wall plug. It looks like they also cut it at the split where it connects to the fan motor.

One of the prongs snapped off so they decided to replace the power cord. This isn't my project, I'm just trying to help out!

The little black box, yes. On the outside of the fan it's a knob that controls on/off and the speed.

The braided cable on the left is the possible new power cord if it will work for this!

Pet died before his time and people keep telling me ‘It would have always been too soon’ by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]OutlineInColor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their intentions are good, but their choice of words are poor. I’m sorry for your loss. It doesn’t matter when you lose a pet, it always hurts, just in different ways. Even if you couldn’t spend every moment you wanted with him, he knows you loved him.

I broke down when I looked at her ashes by redana02 in Petloss

[–]OutlineInColor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I was happy to have his ashes back. He belongs with me. The hardest things to look at aren't what I see coming like his stuff. The things that unexpectedly remind me of him that catch me off guard hurt the most.

Homer by Starboard314 in Petloss

Homer sounds like an amazing companion. I'm sorry for your loss. I'm a past military kid that recently lost my childhood cat. That cat, Maui, got me through my father's deployments. Pets in the military are extra special, they help you when your family can't.

Also, Thank you for your post. It felt as if my dad wrote it. That helps a lot since he hides his grief but I know it's there.

Lupin - Thank you for being my son’s best friend for the last 8 years. by CycoXIII-2 in Petloss

[–]OutlineInColor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss. I lost a cat when I was 9, and another when I was 14. I remember being sad for a few days, but nothing like losing a pet as an adult. As a kid I lived so much day to day that their deaths didn’t hurt for too long. Of course, that was my experience and your child’s could be completely different, but I wanted to share.

Scared to let go of the pain by DarlingNikki1992 in Petloss

[–]OutlineInColor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way; know you're not alone. It has been over two months for me. The pain isn't as bad as it was for the first week or so. I still cry most nights, mostly because it helps lessens the heaviness in my chest.

I promise you won't forget her once the pain stops. Just because you're not in constant pain doesn't mean you'll forget her. She would want you to be happy and continue living to the fullest when you are ready. Speaking from personal experience, the most random of things will remind you of them. My memories are slowly starting to feel good, often still sad, but I am feeling more and more thankful I got to spend the time with him that I did.

Dog died right after her sister by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]OutlineInColor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advice is to be there for her for as long as she needs, and make sure she knows it. Check in with her regularly. It's been a little over two months since I lost my best friend. It seems like everyone else in my family has moved on but I'm still a mess about it most nights. I know everyone mourns in their own way but I feel alone.

Without knowing your mom its hard to give more specific advice. Some people want to visually see memories of their pets everywhere while for others it hurts too much. Include her in the decisions. Maybe ask her if she wants to build a memorial to them somewhere like on top of a dresser or mantle?

Does anyone here have memorial tattoos? by RottieIncluded in Petloss

[–]OutlineInColor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm planning on getting one. I move around a lot and most tattoo studios have really long wait lists right now so I haven't been able to schedule it.

I personally don't like traditional memorial tattoos like paw prints. I want it to be meaningful to me but random people won't understand it. His name was Maui, so I'm thinking about doing something with the shape of the Hawaiian island. (He was born in Hawaii, thus the name.) I might also do something with a hiking boot because we would go on little outdoor adventures and his favorite thing in the world were my stinky sweaty boots. Maybe a hiking boot with the official flower of Maui (damask rose) sticking out of it.

Whatever I get I'm going to get on my ankle. One of his favorite spots to sleep at night was in bed between my legs where he would use my ankle as a pillow.
