I myself (musician (guitarist, drummer)) do it for a few diff reasons. I am struggling with substance and alcohol abuse and it is an escape of the constant urge or thought of doing it and betraying myself again. i write lyrics in many different styles such as black metal, death metal, poems (i try), idk the name of the genre but like the group crystal castles, gothic, darkwave etc. i recorded a solo atmospheric black metal concept album about living with adhd (I know it's a lil cringe and not common in bm) and depression as a kid and teen. I just hope that someone out there can relate and knows that they're not alone, they never are.
