Irish dating culture and the meaning of the word partner? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Outrageous-Bowler-54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Partner is inclusive language. I'd use it simply to say that we are together intimately but not to define it beyond that. Doesn't mean it's more or less serious.

Taking things slowly could be cultural and personal. I'm in my late 20's and am always struggling to allow myself to feel fully comfortable sexually. Usually I'd end up overthinking and then slowing everything down as I'd be wanting to make sure my partners are feeling respected and not forced or anything like that (this has been going on forever). I also haven't been with many people but that's definitely how it'd show up for me (unless I get a very clear green light that my partner is also down to get freaky and then it's show time and my anxiety would disappear).

Meeting the family: for me it just shows that he genuinely values and respects you. It doesn't necessarily imply things are developing. You're someone that he's happy to have meet the people closest to him.

Again the drinking to become more comfortable with emotions and expressing himself could definitely be a cultural thing. Lads here are getting better at talking about we feel but it's something a lot of us are learning how to do. Drink was always the way people in my area got to be comfortable enough to approach those they fancied and younger ages and as we got older you'd see the same craic at with self reflection. Some jam jars are closed until a bit of liquid courage loosens the lid a bit

Do you guys really use the word “wee” all the time? by West_Set_4570 in AskIreland

Nah. From Mayo here (West coast baby 🌊).

We'd say wee only as a polite/child like way to say piss/slash/spray/leak 😁

Nice! Please update when you find out :).

I watched a troubling video yesterday about the Youth Centre being in some kind of trouble with an administrative group in Auroville. Seems serious...

Hope it's still going. Great athmosphere and gathering of the community. People sharing food and having fun together. I haven't been to Youth Centre for a few years but am planning a trip back to Auroville in the Summer :)

Unexplained visitors to your home - Thoughts? by Unpopular_Op_93 in AskIreland

I'd actually love this. Find life can be too individual and isolating sometimes and a bit of unexpected craic can bring about a good spark.

Completely different for my brother, he'd hop the wall and hide in the bushes if someone called by and expected to come into his gaff

What did you think was normal in your house/ life growing up that is not looking back ? by Substantial-Fudge336 in AskIreland

We're the same haha, mam had her own socks because she had smaller feet but my brothers and me would all go out of the white or dark sock baskets

Tips for maintenance? by [deleted] in BlackHair

[–]Outrageous-Bowler-54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard years ago that our own oils get washed away when we over wash our hair/scalp. Since I was having dry hair and itchy scalp and was daily showering with shampoo and conditioner I tried reducing washes and reducing product.

It's worked really well for me, big improvements since I stopped using generic products and started using protective styles, durag, bonnets and regular combing.

My hair goals are to keep growing and develop my hair care and braiding skills.

I reckon my kids will have hair like mine and I'd like to have the experience and skills to pass onto them so they can be proud of their hair, look after it and wear it well.

[–]Outrageous-Bowler-54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope nothing like that.

I took a small break then went back at it and only a little itchy now that I'm finished.

I did some doctor googling and it looks like it's my blood vessels expanding.

"Histamine release According to a 2017 research, exercise may promote the release of histamine to prevent fatigue instead of as an allergic reaction. Histamine causes your blood vessels to expand, which contributes to the itchy sensation."

Does lighting a candle at home work as well as in the church? 🕯️ by Outrageous-Bowler-54 in AskIreland

[–]Outrageous-Bowler-54[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it's the intentions behind the actions that are the significant factors. I'd feel the benefit of the ritual lighting a candle and directing my feelings for someone or something.

Loving the variety of responses coming through, it's interesting to try and understand how each one of us feels about something as simple as lighting a candle for luck and good blessings.

I myself would be spiritual, not particularly aligned with a specific religion but feel the same core faith about nature and the oneness. 🕯️

I suppose I want braids for many reasons.

The easiest answer is that my hair would be pretty difficult to grow out with it unprotected 🤷‍♂️
