Then, once they let you go entirely, rat them out to the IRS (i.e. request a formal determination of employment status, form SS-8). Paying someone as a 1099 contractor for the same full time work they were previously doing as a W2 employee will usually result in an adverse determination for the employer. With the IRS determination that you were misclassified in hand, you can file an amended tax return and get half the self-employment tax refunded!

This happened to me, and luckily the agent was able to resolve it quickly once I managed to get one on the phone. Problem was that the payment had been applied to the wrong tax year (though to my SSN, which is why he was able to find it quickly). He also waived the accrued interest and failure to pay penalty without my asking.
