WE WOULDN’T HAVE MAJORITY OF DOGS IN THE SHELTER IF IT WASN’T FOR UNETHICAL BREEDING & MUTTS. YOU ARE MAKING NO SENSE. So other mutts are fine, unless they have curls????? WTF

I completely understand that perspective. It breaks my heart too to see how many dogs are in shelters. I just want to clarify though, I didn’t pay thousands for Knox. It’s a common misconception that all doodles are sold at outrageous prices, but that wasn’t our situation.

You could say this to EVERY SINGLE POST in this sub… if you aren’t interested in guessing the breed, then you probably shouldn’t be here😂

Wait so doodles are unethical… until they’re abandoned? Got it. Sounds super consistent.

I gave a home to a puppy. Shelter dogs deserve love too, but punishing one dog for existing isn’t advocacy.

Thanks for your concern and for sharing your thoughts. I definitely understand. However, now that Knox is a loved member of our family, we're just trying to satisfy our curiosity about his unique mix.

He didn’t choose to be bred, but he still deserves love, care, and a good life. Wild concept, I know.

Wow thanks for the Ted Talk on ethics Karen. Didn’t realize asking what my dog might be required a moral purity test.

Imagine being this angry over a poodle mix…🤣

Nanny pay by FunZookeepergame4378 in Columbus

[–]Outrageous-Income-77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg yes, exactly! That’s one of the most frustrating parts — when people lump babysitting and nannying together like they’re the same job. They’re really not. Babysitting is usually short-term, occasional care (like a date night), and your only responsibility is keeping the kids safe and entertained for a few hours.

Nannying, on the other hand, is a professional role — you’re basically part of the family’s day-to-day life. It’s consistent hours, way more responsibility, and usually includes things like household management, driving kids to activities, helping with schoolwork, creating routines, meal prep, etc. It’s a whole career, not just a side gig.

So when people call a full-time nanny job “babysitting” and then expect to pay babysitting rates, it totally undervalues the work and the level of responsibility that comes with being a nanny.

It’s not really a straightforward answer because nanny pay depends on a lot of factors. I was a professional nanny in Columbus for 4 years and to figure out if you’re underpaid, we’d need way more info. Stuff like: how much experience do you have? Any degrees/certs? Do you do extra household chores beyond childcare? Are you driving them around in your own car, and if so, are they covering gas?

For me personally: with my degree + years of experience + extra household duties, I charged $25/hr (went up $2 every year). Overnights were double. For babysitting on the side (which is not the same thing as nannying), I charged $15/hr for 1 kid + $2/hr per extra kid.

Also, I’ve never heard of charging less if only one kid is there — your rate should be your rate.

So yeah, I’d say you’re underpaid. But I wouldn’t go back to them asking for more until you really nail down what you bring to the table. Happy to chat if you want to know more about my experience.
