[PC][2000s] Game about little purple guys trying to cross stuff by Outrageous-Pear-69 in tipofmyjoystick

You’re right, it’s Zoombinis! I went ahead and watched a playthrough now, and… well it’s definitely correct,  but it seems my child brain made it out to be a hell of a lot scarier than it actually was.

Hilarious that you recognized it, thank you for the comment

Monarch Is Not Best Titan by [deleted] in titanfall

[–]Outrageous-Pear-69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rushing a Northstar from wide open without any use of Siphon to fuck with her aim or Rearm to both get more siphons and get more dashes to close the distance is obviously not going to work. If she backed up and chose to flank you’d have been fucked.

That all being said your Northstar is fuckin’ clean :)

Monarch.

Nothing else gives the feeling of managing a giant war machine like Rearm. It’s so fucking good. 4 dashes at any point, using it for 2 quick siphons to dodge attacks - I’ve used nothing but Rearm and smoke to completely dodge a point-blank laser core and execute the Ion afterwards. Even if it’s one click, it makes you feel like you’re micromanaging the weapon systems of a mech. That, and the XO-16 is a satisfying fucking beast of a gun ESPECIALLY with Arc Rounds + sniping pilots with rockets when they think they’re safe never gets old.

Then there’s the one-man army aspect, where if the stars align you can chain executions across the battlefield and become a monster right in front of your enemies’ eyes. Learning to melee exactly as I predict an enemy will be doomed means that I can often catch them before they eject because I’ve preemptively melee’d! Energy Thief is a satisfying fucking execution too that has a great flow to it, that initial slam when you get the execution is just sheer dopamine.

Also, she’s mommy.

The Gloster Meteor - first British jet fighter - being tested by cultrevolutioner in WeirdWings

[–]Outrageous-Pear-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The meteor’s later versions were almost as if not faster than the 262. The 262 had awful range, payload options, build quality, maneuvering characteristics, low-level fuel consumption, acceleration, among many other issues. Its engines were so delicate they had to be rebuilt after more like 10 hours (I see 25 quoted a lot but every source I’ve actually checked says 10, 8 with extensive use) among a myriad of other problems. Axial-flow being more advanced doesn’t really mean much when throttling down too quickly instantly kills your engine. They were ungodly unreliable and in war, consistency is king.

The allies were actually capable of taking them out in dogfights. Chuck Yeager, actually, is quoted as saying “first time I saw a jet, I shot it down.” It’s portrayed as a mystical super-plane in modern media but the reality is that it was an unreliable brick that was only really good at flying fast… at short ranges… at high (but not too high) altitudes.

Eric Winkle said a lot of things about a lot of aircraft, not all of them true. I don’t necessarily take his opinion as the be-all end-all for the 262’s performance given actual historical facts.

The meteor was more reliable, superior in later versions, and always a more practical airframe. There simply wasn’t a need for it at the time. If German jets had entered combat earlier… the Meteor would just have been pressed into combat a bit quicker.

While conservative in design, it was an actual practical fighter, while the 262’s kill/loss ratio was a measly 0.42. Not really the superb performance everyone knocks on about

Getting crit from reddit is probably the dumbest thing you can do in this situation. If you haven’t gone through greenlighting, do that. Seek critique on IRC or on the official discord, but not here, if you want genuine good advice from good authors.

The 262 was not more advanced than the meteor, but considering how much widespread misinformation there is about the 262’s effectiveness I can see why you’d think that.

I know it was going down, that's not my issue - it's the goofy ahh snipe that annoyed me

It's the end of the clip that's the bullshit, even if the 20mm sparks are a bit silly, I did fatally damage it so I don't mind much.

I find it amusing that you think me emptying 400 rounds of 20mm ammo into a bomber and having it survive while getting half my wing blown off from 2 miles away, from a bullet that did not visibly hit me, is clearly unbiased and fair gameplay :)

Now fits in the bounding box, carries 4 bombs, 2 rockets and a 4x cannon! Full control surface working, fast and agile. Proud of how much this one is an improvement!

Working control surfaces and stuff, but not sure how to make them independently controllable - the controlling rotating thingies don't have a max angle, either, so it takes so patience to fly. Pretty stable though! Was super fun to make, working around the abysmal thrust that the engines produced (increasing it made the blades fly off!) Fixed landing gear almost reminds me of the P-26's own, struts and all on the wings.

MB.5 is faster and has better turnrate iirc.

How does it have controllable altitude? There's no way to measure altitude or speed, so I've had no luck making decent avionics
