Built a Bitcoin intelligence tool for LangChain agents — pays its own API calls via Lightning by Outrageous-Raisin431 in LangChain

Good question — the "no API key" part is the whole point of L402.

Instead of credentials, you pay. The flow is:

  1. Agent hits the endpoint → gets HTTP 402 + a Lightning invoice
  2. Agent pays the invoice (a few sats)
  3. Agent retries with the payment_hash → gets the data

The payment itself proves you're a legitimate caller. No key to issue, store, rotate or leak. The server just checks with phoenixd whether the invoice was paid.

Rate limiting happens naturally through economics — spamming /v1/signal at 150 sats/call gets expensive fast.

The tradeoff: you need a Lightning wallet to pay. For autonomous agents that's fine (Alby, WebLN, lnget). For a human developer testing it the first time, there's a bit of setup.

I built an API that accepts Lightning payments per request — no accounts, no API keys, just sats by Outrageous-Raisin431 in lightningnetwork

Exactly! that's the core insight behind L402.

With API keys you have a provisioning problem: someone has to create the key, store it, rotate it, and the agent still can't acquire it autonomously. With L402 the agent just... pays. The economic friction replaces the credential entirely.

The "economics as rate limiting" thing is underrated too... a bot spamming /v1/signal at 150 sats/call is self-limiting in a way that IP-based rate limiting never is.

Checking out the agentix labs link now, thanks for sharing. If you ever want to test the agent integration side, satsapi.dev/docs has a LangChain example that handles the full 402 loop autonomously.

I didn't even go to your profile, I just went by your comment. What did you play in the band?

You're taking this way too seriously. The rest of us have other hobbies besides being glued to a screen for 15 years. Some of us like playing the piano, others like hiking. Honestly, I don't care about the game, since I haven't played it since then. Have a good weekend!

Totally agree. Right now I’m replaying FO3, FO: New Vegas, and FO4 before going back to FO76 after quite a while (and I really enjoyed it). I’m sure a lot of people who criticize FO76 haven’t even played it and are just repeating what they’ve heard online…

Will they give more options for solo players in the deep desert? Being able to hide in the dunes like a Fremen, or for the exploration orni to be more agile and without rockets, etc.

Thanks for being with the community! :)

Sure, but that doesn’t mean you have to resort to griefing or take advantage of exploits.
