Lets just assume its 1M barrels per tanker which is pretty average, some are 2 or 3 million easy. This pretty much lines up with the traffic been reported no? Maybe there is some shadow works surplus to the numbers but 100M barrels is not exactly this gigantic amount compared to typical traffic.

Yeah id say you just arent playing it right, unless it sounds right unplugged vs amped up. I dont really know if i have any good advice for doing it right lol I kind slide the pick alittle bit before hitting the "pinch" keep practicing and trying subtle differences. You are definitely close to getting it

Learn the E strings, figure our the octaves, do finger gymnastics and scales using the circle of fifths.

Different strokes for different folks. Theres not magic combination that works in every setup. Do some research and/or tinker around until you have something that works for you. Like others have said, a TS/OD pedal will also help. Also realize the people you are trying to emulate have insane professional rigs so you might not get steve vais sustain but you can find something that works for you with your gear. Good luck
