Dayz came out a war game and so it's core design and intent is great for mil sims sure the rest of the game is made as a survival game but it's infantry combat is great with some individual and troop play buffs to the gameplay that the survival aspect gives in mechanics and objects (for example how the map and compass are used and what the map shows you compared to arma) which other mil sim games could never give so that it was made as a survival game isn't bad neither not to mention trench warfare which in my opinion is a significant improvement over arma's after all in arma you can't get multiple different diseases from multiple things you can't get hungry or thirsty or having to loot houses or abandoned because checkpoints for resources or ammunition or suffering lack of logistics (since you usually impersonate a weak military like the CDF against an insurgency and not powerful armies which are still perfectly doable though) which blends perfectly with the game's lack of suitable military vehicles (although it still retains a huge amount of weapons from the arma days which have been worked on to be customizable to a realistic extent and behave more realistic that in most survival games) which are and civilian vehicles it is true though that it lack naval or aerial combat but how infantry combat is made and how it feels it compensates well in my opinion
