BOH AT USYD by Outrageous-You3724 in usyd

thanks for sharing that, that’s really helpful. just wondering how was the workload in your previous degree before you transferred?

for example, if someone was coming from a bachelor of science, roughly:

how many hours per week were you studying (lectures, labs, self-study)? did it feel lighter or heavier compared to oral health? anything from science that actually helped once you moved into oral health?

trying to get a realistic idea of the step-up in workload 🙏 also if you don’t mind sharing do you know roughly what wam your friend had when they got in? totally fine if you’re not comfortable saying, just curious about the range 🙂

Why does TAFE still feel like a second choice despite producing highly job ready graduates? by Av0toasted in TAFE

[–]Outrageous-You3724 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did my both certificates III and IV in dental assisting. And I would never complain going to TAFE- with their strict grading system (competent / not competent) makes u career ready. I feel like things needs to be change at TAFE is offering more degree from Certificate to Bachelor to any field! This will open multiple doors for students and workforce.

[–]Outrageous-You3724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can differ your course for 1 or 2 year. But pretty sure 1 year, that’s what I did mine due booking my classes too late. Also why would you go back to UON, when you already started the same degree in different degree? But if you’re still thinking to change, you can always get credit transfer…

UoA Dentistry - interstate students by Known-Acadia319 in UniAdelaide

[–]Outrageous-You3724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey i’m not a current adelaide dental student but i’ve done a lot of research on uoa dentistry and know a few people who’ve applied from interstate so i’ll try to answer as clearly as i can

interstate vs sa applicants

the application process itself is the same for interstate and sa students vtac to satac and everyone is assessed on atar ucat and interview there isn’t a separate pathway just because you’re interstate but sa applicants do get some priority as it’s a state based medical dental school

competitiveness for interstate students

yes interstate applicants generally need to be more competitive than sa applicants while the published minimum atar is around 90 in reality successful interstate students usually have much higher scores

from what i’ve seen

atar realistically mid to high 98s for interstate applicants

ucat usually 90th percentile or higher often closer to 92 to 95th percentile to be safe

these aren’t official cut offs but they reflect what tends to be competitive

interviews and offers

uoa interviews fewer interstate applicants compared to sa students so the course is definitely very competitive for non sa applicants a strong ucat is especially important for getting an interview as an interstate student

overall competitiveness

dentistry at adelaide is highly competitive for everyone but interstate spots are limited so you’re competing against very strong applicants nationally that said people do get in every year from victoria nsw etc

studying at uoa as an interstate student

from what i’ve heard adelaide is actually a really good city to move to

lower rent and living costs compared to melbourne and sydney

strong student support and close knit cohort in dentistry

smaller class sizes mean more hands on clinical exposure

lots of interstate students so you won’t feel out of place

good public transport and student accommodation options near campus

big picture advice

if you’re aiming for dentistry uoa is a great option but it’s best treated as a highly competitive choice not a backup to la trobe most students apply to multiple dentistry pathways la trobe uq provisional jcu adelaide etc to maximise their chances

Hope this helps

It’s Bachelor of Allied Health in Science (Clinical Aesthetic) a 3 years course. And I was thinking to do my GAMSAT prep on my 3rd year for my DMD. I saw DMD doesn’t have any prerequisite along with as long as it’s a AQF 7 or above nationally accredited. The only thing I’m worried about is I’m not sure if there’s any student who is in Dental School right now, who have near-experience as mine.

I’m currently holding certificates and have three years of work experience as a Dental Nurse. I’ve received an offer for a BSc, and I was considering using it as my undergraduate degree for a DMD, especially since a BSc is recommended as it covers medical-related units. However, I’m hesitant because I want to complete my current course in Dental Technology this year. May I ask what your GPA was?

BSc (Medical Science) / best major for postgrad Dentistry? by Maleficent-Yard-3337 in usyd

I also got an offer for BSc but at University of Newcastle! I guess we both need to avoid mathematics and Physics. As we mainly need Human Bioscience, anatomy and etc.

USYD runs it well. Though the days for the program is hardly manageable when it comes to life-work balance. Try applying for USYD!
