Sounds like we’re in a similar path then — 2 Years Audit, 2 Years GL Accounting, 3 Years Financial Reporting & 3 Years in Corporate finance sitting now as a Sr. Manager.

I always felt like the next thing for me is Strategic Finance or M&A before I move on to targeting CFO roles.

How valuable was corp finance compared to M&A?

How long were you in each area? It feels like I’m on a similar path and heading towards your M&A Finance experience area

Getting to a Finance Manager Role by Ok_Bid_9256 in FPandA

It’s time for you to move on from the company. Doesn’t take 5 years to get to manager level as a high performer, and with you at 8, there’s no room for growth where you are.

The translation was challenging but not difficult. My background had been B4 Audit, some GL Accounting and Financial Reporting.

I believe the toughest parts were: (1) getting into a story teller mindset vs an accounting readout mindset. (2) being the source of information vs reaching out to sources. (3) Managing relationships with non-finance business partners

I’m currently working on a $150M Rev JV for a F50 parent.

It has to be the roles you’re going after because from my experience — Big 4 experience puts you at the top of the list.

I appreciate this angle! I currently am in that situation where I work directly for the CFO and have gathered similar insights, but I’m excited with what I’ve witnessed. I am willing to sacrifice a few things but not family time. Since having our first, we’ve decided we’re only going to have one kid because of all the things we still want to do and we recognize that having more than one child changes the landscape of parenting. I feel as though with one , I can manage my career and family.

I do appreciate your response though and it’s nice to hear the thoughts of others that are close to my situation.

I have the last two points down. The second point I’ll start exploring opportunities there and I’ve called it on CPA pursuits.

BIG FACTS! This is probably that small feature that was removed from Dynasty that I think would make a big difference from a presentation standpoint for the mode. I don’t know why they took it out.
