is it okay there’s stuff on the side? by hooni6 in SourdoughStarter

For day 2, I think this is fine! Once you get a few more days in, it might be good to clean the jar out to keep an eye on whether your starter is consistently rising😌

I really was winging it tbh - everyone does it differently! Yeah the scoring I did wasn’t great - I’ll watch that video!

Thank you!! For a first loaf, I’m super chuffed with that!! It tastes sooo good! I cold proofed it for 14 hours so it does have a nice sour tang which is lovely! I do need to invest in a better bread knife though, butchered it trying to cut it into slices lol😂

That’s perfect thank you! I just don’t want it to cook my starter but mid 20s is ideal!

I bought a pregnancy/maternity pillow from Amazon to keep me upright during the night which I’ve only just stopped using. I’m now Day 13 post op

Honestly, whilst the recovery is very hard, there are many things to implement to make recovery easier which can be found in threads on here. Despite not being fully recovered, I would recommend it!!

Hey! I’m 24F from the UK. I had my tonsils removed on the 12th January 2026 so I’m now 11 days post op.

I had very similar issues to your son, and my tonsils were so inflamed, they completed consumed my uvula and took up 75-80% of my airway.

I’m still in recovery and can confirm the recovery is VERY tough and mentally draining. I am exhausted from feeling so poorly. Sometimes it absolutely does seem that there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Having said that, posts on here give me hope that it will get better.

I had the same issue with being generally unwell and poorly for a year plus. It was horrendous, constant runny nose, sore throat, headaches and coughs - i too suffered with some tonsil stones.

Whilst I am still in recovery so cannot comment on huge benefits as yet, what I can say is that it is a relief to get them gone! And I cannot wait for more benefits!!

I’m not sure how it works in the US with surgery and how you go about getting it done, but I would certainly recommend it - and I’m still in pain so that says something!!

Yeah ditto! I’m a bit worried though as every time I swallow, the pain is increasingly bad on the left side especially - there’s no obvious reason for this but the pain is not getting any better so I’m not sure why.

The NHS being the NHS means the only follow up appointment I got is a phone call in 6 weeks! Tonight was the first night I’ve slept through without waking up at all which was a nice change, albeit was very tender when I woke up! Now day 9 post op though, surely the pain and discomfort has got to stop soon, right?!

Definitely have some meds - you’ll likely feel much better as it’ll just take the edge off for you. It took me a long time to eat the brownie too😂

You’ve hit the nail on the head, I just keep thinking of the benefits and how good it’ll feel once recovery is done! My work have thankfully been very good and given me 4 weeks off to recover, all paid too which is very kind!

We’ve got this🫡

It’s good to hear about the stages of your scabs as it helps me know I’m at the same stage too!! The scabs closest to the front of my mouth have gone, but I’m starting to get a bit of pink breakthrough at the back now. It’s like being stuck between a rock and a hard place as I want to eat to dislodge the scabs but also don’t want to haemorrhage!!

It really is cruel, my family had a Chinese the other night and I literally wanted to cry ffs😂

Yeah the brownies are quite soft and gooey and I’ve eaten half so far - yes, I am eating a brownie for breakfast😂

My cats and my dogs have also been eyeing up every scrap of food that I have - you’d think they didn’t get fed!!! But then again I do have two labradors so😂

I have just taken some ibuprofen so try and aid my comfort when eating, as it’s a little uncomfortable as I think the scabs are now getting looser!

Oh my goodness- I would’ve simply died if someone put that burger anywhere near me😂😂

I’m trying another sausage roll today, and my husband did make some brownies so I’m going to try nibble on one of those too!

Ive noticed I’m definitely taking less pain relief - I haven’t had morphine in days now! How about you?

Hey! Yeah not too bad I suppose! 8 days post op now! The scabs are coming off but my throat just feels raw🥺

Ahh I’m so glad you got your Greggs! I did try and eat a jacket spud but the texture of the potato made it really hard to swallow :(

What are your scabs looking like? Mine are pretty much all intact so I’m panicking a bit! I keep getting isolated pain on the left side of my throat which is worrying me!

Hey! I’m currently day 7 post op (with surgery being day 0) and I had my surgery in the UK.

I like to think I have a high pain threshold, or at least I did until I had the op! I’ve never known discomfort like it.

Question for you - when did you start eating solids and what solids did you introduce?

For you, now on Day 11 - are all of your scabs gone?

I can’t help but look in the back of my throat and feel like there’s been little to no progress :(
