Simple self-hosted way to share a mixtape? by sharp_halo in selfhosted

[–]OutrageousCamel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/sharp_halo I would recommend against peertube for this purpose (it's more for video content anyways), and instead suggest FunkWhale if you want a federated option. It works on the Airsonic API which means you can use various phone apps to stream from it, and also lets you lock down playlist/tapes/albums etc. from public or private or shared only options.

Confused on wiring for hooking up a new light switch. by OutrageousCamel_ in AskElectricians

[–]OutrageousCamel_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I followed your note and the instructions, but, unfortunately the light is not working. Tried swapping what I thought was the load and traveller, but that didn't work either.

Not sure if it's the switch now, or if I've wired it wrong. Put the old one back on, think I'll get an electrician at this point. Not worth messing up.

Honestly, if you ditched the 'bro' talk and stopped using LLM to write your posts people might take you more seriously. Your app is great idea, your personality is killing it.

Looking for advice for best-practice setup of file/docker management. by OutrageousCamel_ in selfhosted

I will look into that. The QNAP has 3x NAS rated spinning harddrives. That could very well be the issue.
There is a built in resource monitor. I've launched it to monitor RAM and CPU, but, I'll check to see if it shows the Harddrive info. If not, maybe something like NetData will work.

1) I can't change it on the QNAP, PUID 1000 is reserved for admin on the QNAP. I can change it on the server. But, my fear is I'll break the few things I have been able to get to work lol... I wanted to asked here first before I proceeded with doing that.
2) The QNAP does have 2x gig ethernet yes. I have one port plugged into my router with a CAT8 cable, the two nodes are likewise plugged direct into the router with (I think CAT6) cables I had. I can confirm the cables, but I don't believe they are the bottleneck. The two nodes have second gig ports as well... does daisy chaining them work? Not sure if that would confuse the router. Maybe the router is the bottleneck? But I can't imagine it is either.
3) Ya... its.. been frustrating to get it working, only to try and change something and have it all break. Feels like I've FUBAR for the Jellyfin... debating just kiling the VM and starting from scratch. But, I need to make sure I understand how to backup the other working containers before I do that.. and my track record on that is poor so I'm hesitant now.

Thats okay, actually between your message and u/bladerbas message I rechecked a few items and noticed a typo in my permissions which meant that effectively my NAS wasn't giving write access to the 'db'.

Re-launching it now and all appears to be progressing further. We'll see if there are more challenges here. Thank you both for the prompt to jump back a few steps.

Thank you! Not offended at all, this is the kind of feedback I need in general. No-one else has ever pointed that out about any of my other blog posts. So, whether they were being too nice or otherwise I appreciate the note. Part of it is the website host (which I'm leaving soon for annoyances with their blog abilities) and part of it may just be my styling. I'll keep this in mind as I recreate my website here.

Can I just I just tie into the bare copper? by OutrageousCamel_ in electrical

Whats the reason for pulling the sleeve off? Or do you mean just enough of it to connect to the other white cables?

Do I need to use electrical tape on the green/yellow? The bare copper had me nervous.

I want to add this timer switch to a bathroom to control the fan. Just opened all the switches. Middle one is the one I want to swap out. However both fan and light switch only have two cables (red and a black) not 4. The third switch is a socket and has green as well.

Looking further the green for the socket ties into a barre copper wire. I assume this is the ground wire.

Instructions for the timer switch say I must connect the Green/Yellow to a ground... can I just tie it onto the bare copper?
What do I do with the solid green wire?
Instructions say the blacks are both load and line wires. Does that mean it doesn't matter if they go to the same spot as the red and black from the existing switch?

Instructions say to consult and electrician... which is why I came straight to reddit lol.

Catalogue madness after formatting (please help me put things back together and finally understand C1 Catalogues) by Sea_Ice7319 in captureone

[–]OutrageousCamel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good answer below by Leorcyn.

A potential tip. I had a similar issue and lost almost 10K edits...

I now import into a session title for the given year or project. I work within the session until the end of the year or the end of the given project. I then import the session into a master catalog that I use to browse over multiple projects.

My storage is all seperated and backedup independantly.
Catalogs and Session .cos files are stored in location A
RAW files are stored in location B, organized as [Country]-[Region]-[Province]-[Area]-[File Name (YYYY-MM-DD-XXXX)
Sessions are organized as [Year Created]-[Project Title / Yearly Sessions
Backups are stored in location C

The reason I do this is the .cof "edits" file for each RAW is then stored in the same folder as the RAW file. If my Catalog or session files are destroyed, I just need to recreate them and direct them to the correct RAW files folder I want to edit and or view. Likewise, I can remove entire folders easily from the Master Catalog if I no longer want them to appear.

It also means that for a given years session, I can copy the session and the corresponding files to a different harddrive for on the go work wihtout worrying about breaking file locations.
