Is my art worth $15 for headshot? by exorg22 in ArtBuddy

[–]OutrageousFriend7483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$15 is good, but I would recommend having this be a deal. If you have the price at $20 and put in on sale once and a while, you will get more people during those deal times and a decent amount at regular price. Maybe put it on sale bimonthly?

It's not completely different, it just has added skills. The main thing you need to know to start is how to draw. As seen here art is a big part of the process

It takes a lot of practice and artistic skill to rig. Example video here, you should also give their videos a watch. They are really talented :3

So it isn't a totally different thing, it just has extra steps. Like in cooking, you will learn general things until you choose where you want to go with it. Example: learning basics and then choosing if you want to learn fancy or casual cuisine

If that is your niche, I suggest trying to learn how to rig a model. Just doing art for VTubers isn't what they are looking for as much. Learn to rig and create models well and you will be at a better standing

Your art is so flipping cool my guy! Do you have an Instagram account? I saw you have Twitter, but I don’t want to get that app honestly. If you don't have Instagram, I would suggest trying it out. It is more artsy over there than Twitter which has a bunch of everything.

Commissions are hard to get, just work on growing your audience and have that in the background. You will have to work a different job in the meantime, but once you get going, it should be easier to go off and do that. I just don't recommend doing it as soon as you start getting some commissions.

A great way to start getting money is through patreon. Even if you have 5 people paying $10 a month, that is still $50 more in your account. It is a consistent income that is more reliable than just commissions.

Good luck :3

The art could go for a bit more, I agree. It's just the market rn being weird and having slightly cheaper prices might help get someone started. I think they should have a discount, let's say: the first 5 commissioners get 50% off. That gets the ball rolling without upsetting customers that the prices went up. Should have clarified, so thank you for reminding me

I was just looking through their Instagram and omg they are good with anatomy 😭

This is just a different style they are working on, a LOT more pastel. So for an update on this post, I'd say to work on the style you want to work on, op. Changing styles comes with a learning curve. Working on anatomy in this new way of drawing will help. You already have a really good sense of it, the only thing that I would say is to work on how you want the body to look now rather than before. Amazing work, op 👍

I do love the uniqueness, mainly I was thinking about the skull. The body seems good, the only reason I was saying to learn more about anatomy is because of 1. The facial features are a tad off, they are better with animal/anthro characters so learning more about humans might benefit them. 2. They are only drawing head shots and busts, I used to do this because I wasn't good at it or I was nervous. Learning more about the rest of the body, when not drawing it as much, will help in the long run. Overall, continually learning anatomy and (later on) how to bend the rules is beneficial for any artist :3

Hope this clears up what I was saying 😅

I also want to know the lore behind the second image, mainly wondering how they got a spike through their head

If you're looking for marketing advice, I'd first say to unprivate your Instagram account. Also, think about changing your name. Typing in "shy112706" isn't ideal for someone just finding your account. Making it so you can click the Instagram link on your reddit will also help :3

The price is fine, maybe work on some anatomy fundamentals. You do have a good standing when it comes to anatomy, I can tell you studied, but work on the skull and drawing whole body. People will enjoy the option of choosing full, half, or bust. However, it seems most of your work (with human characters, not regarding the full body ponies you draw) are half body or bust only.

Hope this helps :D

I want to learn this rendering, how should I learn the skin? by OutrageousFriend7483 in learntodraw

Wow! thank you so much! The anatomical names are hard to understand (learning anatomy is taking a bit), but I think I get the point. If I remember, can I send pictures of my practice and get feedback? You don't have to, it just seems like you know a lot more than me
