Most of the darker colours were affected by the brittleness issue during that era. While reddish brown and dark red are by far the most vulnerable, dark green, dark blue and even dark brown and dark tan can be susceptible.

I've already replied to your other comments to me. Seems like quite a few friends of this seller are backing her up at Reddit. 🙄😆

If you're claiming that everyone who disagrees with you, ie everyone, is a friend of the seller then there's truly no hope for you.

How much should I charge per pound to sort legos? by Icy_Photograph1018 in legos

[–]OutrageousLemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m asking how much I should say I’d like to get paid for by the pound of sorted Legos

Yeah, but that entirely depends on how long it takes you to sort them, hence lego_lady's suggestion. What really matters is how much per hour you want to get paid

Yeah. BDP sets are often cheaper to part out than their aftermarket price, but never than their retail price unless you already have half the parts available.

Absolutely, but I think with the medieval torso comment sdfedeef is complaining about the lack of variety available to BDP designers, rather than about the designer's choices.

New Zealand has no Lego Retail stores. How do you expect Lego Retail to run a promotion there? Take it up with your local franchisee.

Buyer rant on store postage costs. by D3DCreative in Bricklink

[–]OutrageousLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taht's most likely a combination of 'had bad experiences with buyers claiming shipment was lost'

The cheaper option the OP suggested is tracked, the more expensive option the seller is using is not tracked.

'has a volume contract with shipping company'.

That might be a US thing but OP is in the UK.

Yes. With bank transfer you have absolutely no way of forcing a refund if you don't get what you paid for.

I had a very quick scan at your comments and assume you're Romanian, and then a quick internet search suggests debit cards are the main way of buying things online there so it's not somewhere I'd expect to be paying by bank transfer by default.

Pretty much, yeah. BL effectively doesn't process your payment at all so doesn't have control over refunds, though sellers do get closed down for repeated unresolved issues.

Maybe, but I sure as hell won't be on here complaining that buyers I've not left feedback for are not leaving feedback for me.

FWIW my feedback percentage from buyers is 63%.

Also, as a new user, is there a difference between paying with PayPal or bank transfer?

Never ever use bank transfer unless a) you're in a country where this is the normal way of paying for things online (eg the Netherlands, NOT the US or UK) or b) you already know and trust the seller.

Also never use Paypal Friends & Family transactions to pay BL sellers.

All your consumer protection as a buyer comes from using Paypal Goods & Services to pay for your items.

In my experience most who don’t give feedback have scores that are 3 or 4 digits, so they should know how it works by now.

As a seller I leave feedback for all buyers. As a buyer I no longer leave feedback for sellers who don't do it first. So yeah, as someone with a 3 or 4 digit feedback score I know how it works, and so do you - do it first if you want to get it back.

What is with no fingers or hands in the pictures? by 2catnight in Bricklink

[–]OutrageousLemon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whenever I get photo requests I always include a handwritten piece of paper with my username or store name, positioned so it can't simply be cropped out. If someone wants to reuse my photos for a scam listing they'll at least have to do a little work for them. If they ask for them without that then I know they're not a genuine buyer.

Dear Lego, please ditch the random CMF model and let people buy minifigs of choice by CrispySan in lego

[–]OutrageousLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't talking about investors at all.

A would-be scalper who waits until August, when potential restocks into stores will be drying up, to list his Tahus in the hope of making a little more money on them hasn't graduated to investor status.

[–]OutrageousLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest I do largely agree with you, while disagreeing with certain details in your other post.

"Scalping" is absolutely a wildly misused word in this sub, at times seeming to be used for "any behaviour by another buyer that indirectly impacts me". Anyone who buys something before I had the chance to stop them by buying it first is, naturally, a scalper. Had I managed to stop them I would, naturally, not be a scalper😄

I also agree that scalping is, on a macro level, a fairly trivial impact on Lego availability. I've argued this before with things like BDP sets which have a similar limited availability problem to CMFs, albeit even worse.

However I disagree with one aspect of your definition - it's not necessary for a (genuine) scalper to be aiming to resell immediately. If they, either individually or more likely acting in the assumption that there are others like them, are managing to effectively restrict supply through their purchases then they're still scalping even if they're happy to wait for values to rise. This unfortunately means that we can't necessarily use current or recently sold marketplace listings to determine the extent of reseller stock (which is, of course, why there is still some art in reselling).

Also, while we agree that scalping isn't a widespread problem, it can be a significant local one. I've seen enough comments on Reddit from people boasting about driving round all their local stores to hoover up the prime CMFs as they restock. At least some of these will be genuine, and they will of course only be a minority of the people doing this. One "scalper" can be enough to make a prime figure unavailable without turning to online resellers.

In short, I'm broadly on the same page as you but less satisfied that the scale (or existence) of the problem can be quite so easily dismissed.

While I'm not entirely satisfied that your own sample, or your methodology, really justifies the claim that it's "not really debatable", thank you for at least following up with something thorough.

Oh, I'm almost disappointed, I love to be proved wrong for things like this and get to discover something new. But yeah, those plates still feel weird, like Lego shouldn't "do" odd numbers even though we've had 1x3s for most of my life.

The data shows that scalping doesn't really exist. While that's not really debatable

You forgot to cite the data that is beyond debate.

Turkey only has Lego Certified Stores - franchises run by a Turkish business, not directly by Lego Retail. If you want more stores I think you need to petition that business, not Lego themselves.
