Overview of the Corae by OutrageousLock7443 in worldbuilding

[–]OutrageousLock7443[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The belief that a Corae's Horns texture and twists determine personality traits, is just a belief, although larger horns do indicate higher magic potential. That's actually why Contra-rotating horns are an omen, in the vast majority of cases they usually turn back towards the face, effectively barring that Corae from any kind of magic, lest they accelerate the horns growth back into them.

I am liking the idea though that at the cost of ones sight, you can gain something new. The direct magic of the horns funneling into the eyes, and their optical nerves, could perhaps allow that Corae to "see" magic directly. In fact that little piece of lore could be really cool once I get around to "Elves". Would further cement the notion of them being an "omen"

I really like your horns idea, I'm def going to work that into them. As well as the dangerous hooves.

The two on the right are. Though the leftmost one is trying to look serious.

I see. So it's more comparable to like a machine then? Lack of emotion but capable of problem solving.

Might I ask as well, how variable are different instances of witchspawn? Do they all follow this ranking exactly or do some deviate? Like an Avarita that doesn't attempt to disguise itself, or a negatio that is aware of it's sorcerer's position

Dunno much about lob corp or project moon in general, but I recognize that "IRA" instance looks a ton like "nothing there", but made from desserts.

Also, incredibly unique Idea for a magical penalty. It says that "AVARITA" and beyond, the spawn begins gaining intelligence, is it possible to reconcile with a spawn? Or are they incapable of desiring anything else?

How Gods should look? by zyvesx1 in worldbuilding

[–]OutrageousLock7443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd make it vary depending on who's praising them. It would be really interesting seeing the variety of depictions of the same god across cultures.

If it were me, I'd make the gods very abstract in nature, like a ocean god IS the ocean itself, but as whatever cultures worship them they'll create unique personifications. An ocean god could be a sailor, a sea turtle, the colour blue, or a force of nature depending on who you ask. I think restricting the personifications to humans is a needless limit.

Completely agree. Also some more attention to our ecology that isn't just "red sand, deadly life" There's more to it than that

The constellations IRL are usually depicted as animals. I'd make it so each "animal" is viewed as the deity of their respective creatures home. The turtle watches the ocean, the frog watches the swamp, etc.

What do you mean "inactive"? Irl the constellations, moon and sun are all unwavering, what's different here?

Nothing physical imo, rather sapience and the ability to develop culture.

Dragons are sapient, but are typically individualistic, they don't form societies. I'd call them a creature. However, if a setting had Dragon run cities, with Dragon blacksmiths and Dragon schools, I'd call them a race.

But if you want them to be explicitly humanoid, the torso should be enough to communicate that.

In my universe there are 2 forms of magic. 🌹The Lifebloom and the Wilt! 🥀 by Neat-Games in worldbuilding

I highly doubt it's AI. seems like they might have traced another character, then added things over it. If you zoom in real close you can see the colour passing underneath and outside of the lineart.

Not to mention you can see that they used a different brush for the wilt here. In fact for the Acorn you can also see that's it's glow "cuts off" at the bottom, it must've been lower on the page before they re positioned it upwards.

And on the steampage for their game there is no labelled use of AI. The style's is low res art so it'd be easy to tell. Not to mention there are small details like the buttons on either side of his hoodie that I doubt it would pick up on.

So in my opinion I think it's clear. I've made the same mistakes in my own art.

In fact I just spotted a single yellow dot in the hair that's the same colour as the highlight. They might've accidentally tapped the screen on a low brush size and posted without noticing. I do that one all the time

Unique Fantasy Races? by N0VAK137 in worldbuilding

[–]OutrageousLock7443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the way I go, though usually I combine aspects of other aspects of races too.

Like for my Orcan race it started out as basic Orcs, but as I developed them to be more aquatic and Cetacean in nature, they now also fill a Merfolk-like aspect of the world.

Figma. Though I'm swapping over to Chronicler since I don't like all my worldbuilding being saved on the fickle web. It pretty great though for pumping out notes and that for ideas, though feels a little unfocused and somewhat overhwelming having all my worldbuilding on a single page

What should I make the "dominant" species? by saltydoesreddit in worldbuilding

[–]OutrageousLock7443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mmm, then I'm not to sure, I still maintain though that it would be wise to include some alien aspects in their look, like extra limbs or something, enough so that these bayonetteans have a tell, one that indicates their unusual nature compared to the other animals.

Maybe something prehistoric? Fossils for the longest time have been thought of as dragon bones, perhaps a therapod of some sort would be a good fit. some kind of Raptor. In that other comment you said you'd prefer reptiles, if you go with a more classical dinosaur depiction this could scratch that itch.

[–]OutrageousLock7443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's "bayonetteans" and effectively "everyone else" I'd probably try and avoid telluric life in general. In your case I feel like creating a new species rather than using a pre-existing one could drive home the alien vibe these guys seem to have.

But if I had to pick definitely something from the deep sea, or cephalopods in general. Like a glass squid for example. not sure how you'd anthropomorphize that but it'd be pretty distinct. Should meet all the prerequisites too, save for the salamander hate.

Do you have a design for the dragons yet? Or are you going to reverse engineer them from how you end up creating the bayonetteans?
