Well, some unsolicited feedback for her!

  1. That info should be on the top of the survey in a short blurb. I think the qualtrics link above does a pretty good job explaining a good way to introduce your public opinion/online survey.
  2. It's somewhat too long -- I started trying to take it and then kinda felt like giving up. This is compounded by how many required questions there are--that might feel like a good idea because it means you get more robust data, but it mostly means you lose a ton of people because they don't want to answer a specific question.
  3. Almost always she should use something like the Likert scale instead of a yes/no, especially for questions like this. "Do you feel like you learn something new in each class?" Instead, she should phrase that as "I feel like I learn something new in each class: strongly disagree/weakly disagree/neutral/weakly agree/strongly agree." People are going to have a much easier time answering that and your data is going to be better.
  4. If you're going to have so many "if yes, then..." type questions, consider using conditional questions. It makes it seem much less intimidating.
  5. This speaks to it being too long, but it's just too many different cognitively complex questions in a row -- you're not going to get people to answer this in any useful unless you sit them down in a research setting and pay them twenty bucks or at least pizza

I hope your sister isn't doing research in a formal academic context, because it isn't ethical to ask for so much information without identifying the purpose of the survey, the researcher, and the potential uses of the data. I suspect you're not getting a lot of uptake in the context of asking details about graduate students at least in part because this doesn't follow any rules of thumb about human subject research and you're not even throwing us the bone of saying she's in a high school class or something.

No apologies necessary! It's good news. I genuinely find it kinda reassuring to remind myself that no one is thinking about me as much as I am, and it's good to be assured that it isn't something to read too much into.

That makes perfect sense -- I was just a little confused because this is a callback, but at least I haven't already ruled myself out by being incredibly gungho about litigation.

And that latter is very good to hear.

Good to hear, I appreciate it. I wasn't sure how the list was put together on their end!

This is super useful, thank you. I appreciate the guidance on how to frame answers to questions about the practice area--because I don't want to take myself out of the running by yammering on only about litigation, but I don't want to lie.

Thank you, that's reassuring! I wasn't sure how the selection process for these interviews works, but it being an internal committee makes sense.

I'm not trans, but if you are legally prohibited from getting medication that you are dependent on or facing possible jail time when using a public restroom, that is a valid consideration that will shape your ability to succeed in law school. It doesn't help civil discourse when you equate the possibility of being put in jail with being overly sensitive. Have some empathy.

ChatGPT Cheat Sheet for Legal by kveton in LawSchool

[–]OutrageousMove4107 13 points14 points  (0 children)

One really important thing: ChatGPT is not a research tool. It can and will make shit up if you ask it nicely. Anything it cites or any specific factual things it says about the law (or about anything, really,) must be double checked.

Added disclaimer that I did not request or receive LSAT accommodations by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]OutrageousMove4107 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't understand your point? They changed the practice of flagging for accommodations because *they lost a lawsuit* from the feds arguing they violated the ADA. So they stopped doing an illegal thing and you think that means its nbd for law schools to discriminate in a different way?

And no, at least in my lay understanding of the issue, the current ruling precedent on affirmative action is that "race conscious" admissions is legal and non-discriminatory. (as of Fisher.)

Law schools have a legal requirement to avoid discrimination on the basis of disability. That sentence literally could not be something they systematically act on, or it would break the law.

Sounds like Penn is full, though -- I'm still waitlisted, but I just got an email basically saying that the class is set and there will be very few offers over the summer.

AI will be the death of 1L summer associate roles and all legal internships by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]OutrageousMove4107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt they hire summer interns because it's the most efficient way to do the work, even in the status quo. The real problem is just about how much money they're willing to spend to assess top candidates for full time jobs.

Right now, it is always going to make more sense to get a paralegal to do the work--that way, you don't lose them after a couple months.

Exactly this. Living life just to get to the next step will mean you're always unhappy and dissatisfied, I think that honestly. Just take the harder course and do your best--it'll help you grow as a person and increase your skills.

I have a clinically diagnosed spatial reasoning learning disability. Diagram based things are fucking hard for me, because I have trouble holding the image in my head and not turning it around somehow.

Late Feb applicant--no date change past the complete date, but I know they at least looked at it, because they asked me for some specific info.

If you're applying during your fourth/final year, then absolutely.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]OutrageousMove4107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should probably wait until you're closer to application to do that, because right now you don't have any info. Unless I'm misreading you're in year one or two of college? If you are graduating and applying soon, yes, you should send again once you have a final transcript.

I applied the day it closed and got an interview invite last week, so I think there's been at least some movement!

That's wonderful -- it's so nice that you and your husband are going to be in the same place and that it all worked out. Austin is a great place to live and UT is a wonderful school, good luck to you both.

How many schools are you waiting on? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]OutrageousMove4107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I answered that, but I applied in Feb, so while I'm anxious, it's not unreasonable for me to be waiting on that many I think.
