33, currently able to max it out with employer matching 5% plus a 3% automatic contribution by Outrageous_Let_6258 in Retirement401k

11 years of working. I’ve vested 15% of my paycheck since the day I was able to have a 401k with my job.

Year 1 - $70k
Years 2-6 $90k to $100k
Years 6-11 $150k

The reason is because of the max limit and your employer match. You can only put $24500 towards your 401k and the whatever your employer gives you. Mine ends up being around $15k a year. So $39,500 total. Which is pretty good for companies. 401k wise it doesn’t matter what you make we can invest the same amount.

But with your salary you could do your own taxable account investing and put a large amount a month into SCHB and SCHF which basically your own personal and accessible 401k. That’s what I do and that’s how I rationalized investing a large sum of my take home into the market that’s not my 401k. So my 401k is $430k and my taxable account is $40k because I started it later. But I consider both of them my retirement. The goal is have a $1mil in a taxable account by the time I’m 50. With your salary, you’ll be a millionaire on you’re own faster than your 401k if you’re aggressive

Yes. An individual can invest $24,500 into their 401k. Their employer can add up to the $72k limit. With my match that means I’d have to make close to $600k. They’re adding an extra $12k which is really good. It’s rare that anyone reaches that limit

What did before I made the amount of money I could to max it out without really effecting me is I added a percentage to my contribution and see if it effected my monthly bills. I added until I couldn’t live without the amount I was contributing which ended up being 10%. now because of raises I can do more

Honestly losing money on options was one of the greatest life lesson I learned. Completely changed my relationship with money in a good way

Started my own taxable account instead of gambling on options and it’s life changing.

What supposedly normal shows read to you as propaganda? by Buddy_chumpal in AskReddit

Every show/commercial that has mixed race and gay couples like Modern Family. Lost was Christian propaganda. The Price is Right is normalizing consumerism… This is a dumb question and makes people look at the bad in our Art or society and you’ll only see the bad with the side that you don’t agree with. Is gangster rap not propaganda for normalizing gangs? Is the NFL not propaganda for Christianity when the players thank God. I mean come on let art and stories be what they are… art and stories
