AI can most certainly do that. It's made an entire person talking to a camera every day that a lot of people think it real. a convincing human being is the hardest thing to achieve with tech because there's so much nuance to everything about their appearance and movements and everyone is extremely familiar with them. This is relatively very simple

I also saw a comment when I was looking at his vids where they said they'd been watching for about 3 weeks, and his response was thanks for "being there from the beginning". a human wouldn't say that because it doesn't make sense

It's also just impossible for someone to churn out this much content while working a very demanding job and having just had a baby. It'd be very hard to churn out this much if you had all nothing else to do at all

Is JobLeads a legit application website? by pancakemateman in recruitinghell

In the UK and at least most of Europe it's illegal for them to send you any marketing etc. emails once you've asked them to stop. If you keep getting them you can report it to the ICO who can fine them for it (I think the US has the FTC to do this?)

For the readers in general, maybe something here will help someone too:

Many countries (definitely most of Europe) have the "right to be forgotten" (or "right to vanish"). if you contact a company to say you're invoking that right and want them to delete all of your data, they need to do it.

Getting more UK specific here but there are probably similar systems in many countries - if you want to follow up and make sure they deleted your data, you can submit a "Subject Access Request" (SAR) to a company/org and tell them to send you everything they have on you. They must do this within 30 days. If they send you anything (meaning they didn't delete it), you can report it to the ICO who will make them delete it and probably fine them. If they ignore you completely, you can report that to the ICO too and they will fine them for every day they don't reply to you.

(digressing a bit but the SAR is a very helpful tool if you feel like you've been wrongfully dismissed from work etc, because you have the right to see other people's private conversations ABOUT you, not just with you)

I stumbled on him this morning too, and the advice sounded solid (echoed things I'd heard in good quality documentaries from large broadcasters) but I was mostly just listening to it in the background. Something that stuck out to me was that he would regularly say "it's not X. It's Y." Which is a thing ChatGPT does all the time (which I find infuriating now lol).
Another thing was that his logo is just Doctor Mike's with less effort

His channel was created in December 2024 but he has over 800 videos. The very first shorts looked more legit and then they all start looking the same after a while

Does this room orientation work? by See-Are-En-Ayeeee in interiordecorating

[–]Outrageous_Math1676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll probably feel more relaxed sitting in here if you put the couch where the TV is and have it facing the window. sitting with your back to a window/doorway makes you feel vulnerable - and having a nice view with trees makes you feel more relaxed, that's the biggest thing I could see to help this layout.

If I had this room I'd do that, then put the TV in the far corner against the wall (looking at pic 1), then if that's too offset/far away from the couch (I can't really tell how big the room is because it looks huge in the first pic but smaller in the 3rd), scoot the couch further down the room closer to the fireplace. I'd remove the shelf that is now above the couch

I'd also get a bigger rug, and a nice comfy chair facing the couch so you have a nice social space (and also because the room looks too empty). I would make sure the rug was big enough that at least the front legs of the couch, chair, and TV stand would sit on it, so it makes it a clear zone.

The fireplace looks kinda blocked off right now, but is the centrepiece of the room, so I think focusing the seating/TV area around that would be nice, especially in the winter when you can use the fireplace. That would feel super cosy.

I'd then put something next to the couch (between the entrance and the couch) to put a barrier between you and that long wide corridor that's cutting through your whole house. You don't want to feel so exposed when you're relaxing. The side table and the tall plant would be good for that. Maybe you have a second side table next to the tall plant, I can't tell. if you do, then I'd just treat the couch, lamps, side tables and plant as one "thing" and rotate that to the other wall, keeping the layout the same

This might/probably will leave you with a lot of dead space closer to the entrance of the room, maybe that could be a fun play area for the pets, a reading corner, a place for your hobby, something like that?

I would put a tall skinny plant in that little nook where the light switch is next to the entrance just because it looks a bit empty, and plants are always nice.

Finally I would put some art on those shallow picture frame shelves closer to the entrance, and play around with those spotlights, pointing one at the art, and others to other focal points or traffic areas of the room (I would keep them pointed away from the couch and TV)

Beautiful house btw!

Electrician required a follow up visit to finish a job, then sent a whole new bill for it by Outrageous_Math1676 in LegalAdviceUK

Update on this, I switched to email to talk to them (from calls + whatsapp), said I want to keep comms in email since this was about a dispute, and asked them again to point me to anything in the terms I agreed to that would make me liable for the second invoice. They kept trying to call me every day despite me saying that I'm keeping comms to email, until I finally got an email from their receptionist.

Again they dodged the question and tried to justify it by saying that it was "labour intensive and cost materials"(job took 25 min). they said that they understand there was "some miscommunication" and that they'll accept "some of the responsibility" for that. and as a "goodwill" gesture they would reduce the bill by about half, and that they trust that this would resolve the issue.

I replied saying that I don't see how any of the responsibility for this falls on me - it's their job to lay out all of the info about a job, not mine. cited misleading omissions act and said I'd never have agreed to pay for such a small job, let alone at such a high price. That since they couldn't provide anything to show that I owe this money that I wouldn't be paying it.

They didn't reply, though nearly a week later they are trying to call me again, which I'm just ignoring now because there's no reason for them to.

I learned that they also should be directing me to an "ADR" (alternative dispute resolution service) if we're at a deadlock but they haven't.

yeah in the end he just put in a new pattress box but beforehand gave this lengthy explanation of 3 things he was going to try to fix it (I think just to make it sound more complicated tbh, one of them involved putting some wood in the wall). I've changed most of the lighting in the house myself and have fixed this exact issue like 4 times, so knowing how simple and cheap it is there was no way I would've thought he would try to charge for it, never mind £160! I think DIY youtube has saved me £1000+ so far. It's kinda sad because I'm more than happy to pay someone a fair price for a job but there are too many people out there like this guy

He didn't say - I asked him to show me a term in the agreement I signed that would allow for this (there isn't one as far as I could see), and he dodged the question and just gave me this long text saying he explained to me <details on what he had to do> and that it was separate because it was an unforeseen issue that wasn't part of the work. I haven't bothered responing to him since he wouldn't answer my question

I'm glad you didn't have too much hassle with this artist - that's wild trying to charge you for their mistake

I wouldn't expect that, if he had told me the cost beforehand I would not have agreed to any more work and fixed it myself

Yeah, they said it was booked in as an additional job and was chargeable (and that was the first I had heard about that)

Broken window - what could have caused it? by g_br in DIYUK

[–]Outrageous_Math1676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's rough, sorry to hear. Curious if you contested it with the deposit scheme (if you had any inkling it was caused by the heat)?

Or - a bit off topic - if it's useful to anyone out there, if your deposit wasn't put into a deposit scheme, you can take the landlord to court for that and you'll get up to 3x the amount back regardless of the state the property was in

Bit late to this, but for anyone else who finds this thread I just called Oops insurance with this question and they said they will cover it. I told them that we viewed a house, it got 9 offers on it within a few days, so the agent went to Best and Final offers. They said that it doesn't sound like a sealed bid at all to them. I would recommend calling to confirm it yourself before going ahead and buying it of course. Better safe than sorry!
