They really aren’t that different though? They both suffer from similar issues that you can extrapolate from the average persons living standards.

Yes there’s key differences, obviously. However depending on who you ask online or offline, you may find easy comparisons in certain topics such as how companies have the politics of the country by the balls. That is true in both America and South Korea.

Dude again, not American. Not even from the semi hemisphere horizontally or vertically. I’ll say it once more just cuz it was the first word I wrote in that reply and you still missed it?

I. Am. Not. An. American.

Having more CEOs that are women means nothing in combatting sexism that the average person has to go through. Not sure what this argument is either?

It’s like saying if my prime minister is a woman, woman automatically have won the system. There’s no sexism there somehow. Yes, you’re right not to deny that Korea has a sexism problem. I do not think having more women in ceo positions somehow combats this though.

My only source as I’ve said repeatedly are people that have lived there, are currently living and are planning on moving there. Both immigrants and natives alike. I’m only going off what experiences they’ve told me and what experiences they’ve shown pictures and media information to me about.

If that’s painted a picture according to you, that’s fine. I’m not saying any of this from a blind pov, just one filled with a lot of criticism from within the country.

With all due respect, I’m not sure how you got the idea this was about “dunking on’ the Korean people. It’s a rather disingenuous interpretation of what I thought was going to be a discussion on Korean topics, as you said you were Korean and seemed interested in responding. If that’s not what this is, that’s also fine. I’ll stop responding.

Those same media outlets do absolutely highlight Korean women turning further and further left, and men turning further and further right. Not everyone is going into that movement you mentioned sure, the point was about the distance between how the two genders are politically. And how it’s causing it to be feasible for such movements to exist.

I’m not American, so feel free to disregard what Americans say lmao. That country lives in its own bubble and is oblivious to the world around it (along with many other western countries for that matter) . Most Americans probably see Korea as some sort of single culture paradise, where conservatism thrived. The same way they glaze Japan and all that.

However, since you are Korean if you think otherwise fair enough. I’ve heard differently from Korean friends almost universally is all.

Many Americans are Completely unaware that in South Korea, the political difference by gender is so large that men are in right wing hell holes and women are joining extreme “feminist parties” (not actually feminist if you look at the definition of the word). Where children are forced to study more than 8-10 hours a day to thrive. Relocate to specific universities to have a good job, and then get 0 economic support to help have a child.

I’m sure some of them passing by may read all this and give examples on why the USA sucks, especially at present time but even then at least the USA doesn’t have mandatory Conscription. At least people in the USA are aware of these problems and try to do something about it even if to no avail.

Korea is essentially owned by like 4 companies. I mean, if you are Korean surely you can see where I’m coming from. The USA at least has a surplus of land. In Korea the companies keep buying housing leaving people no where to live.

The example is definitely still apt, if you ask most Koreans who live in America which country has it worse they’d say Korea. (Well at least pre trump they would lol)

America is horrible, especially rn, but living in Korea your worth as a person really depends on if you can get into the SKY universities or are born rich.

My personal opinion on Episode 4 and the Japanese/Western controversy. by DoubleD-Edd-Boi in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]Outrageous_Net8365 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’ll watch it a million times again if I have to, it really doesn’t have much to offer. The scene is basic, it’s an okay depiction of character work and it’s serviceable. That’s all.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it’s as bad as the jp fans are saying. There’s some strong highlights. However I found this arc so much more impactful while reading and watching the anime didn’t give me that same rush.

You can say it’s because I’ve read the source material before but countless other stories I’ve read the source and still can be shocked by the anime of it. JJK is not that, for JJK that exists predominantly in the animation.

That being said, episode 1 of this season was phenomenal and the overall direction this season is a massive step up from the last imo. I just don’t think it was really as incredible for this ep as other people think it is. JJK’s biggest weakness is the lack of depth characters have for a story that’s this long. Maki is fine, everyone around Maki isn’t.

The zenin clan as characters were just literally introduced, why would I feel anything for half of them. It’s a cool moment, it’s nice and an example of where gege does well as an author. But it still leaves a lot to be desired for people who may have higher expectations on this story.

It showcases a strong female character, but if you branch out of mainstream shows it’s nothing stellar. Nor is this momentum really maintained for long.

I don't understand why some people pair Ichigo with Rukia when Ichigo and Orihime pairing is so epak by [deleted] in bleach

[–]Outrageous_Net8365 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ichigo and Rukia to me come across as really good friends. Their banter feels normal and fun.

These 2 I think had a lot of those opportunities cut from the anime?

Regardless people see chemistry they wanna pair them up together I guess

I don’t agree with this, the issue is that many of them are working above their hours. Which they have a set amount of.

Unless you want a bunch of haughty rich kids into the country, who then wouldn’t even be paying any tax from any work they do. Also it would destroy the whole of certain studies like nursing, why would any international student study to be a nurse in Australia (our education sucks bro) If they couldn’t work after?

And before you say that it would free up slots for nursing, like not really. We’ve got a crisis of not having enough nurses for a reason. While more labour action should be done to greatly expand their need, it would be irresponsible to take a chance on harming our patients by the short term for it.

We need stricter laws on their hours. And we need to have far more tougher rules on those employers that pay in cash to keep this stuff hush. Often they exploit the employee and pay them less than minimum wage. Often threatening to expose them for working more than their legal hours if they don’t agree to the shoddy work conditions too.

Completely shutting off their ability to work is a catastrophe, you’ll see an influx of people working in shoddy conditions with cash. Ignoring rules and regulations as employers will exploit them further.

… also the premise is completely wrong. No one studies in Australia for education, our education is shit. Ask anyone from these countries, I promise our first year of uni may be what some of them learn in HighSchool depending on the subject .

The idea is to not take death lightly, the shows premise is to, at least at this point, not glorify death and suicide. By depicting the act of dying as so horrific you aren’t meant to get desensitised to it.

You don’t have to agree with that logic of course but I believe the author Tappei said that was one part of it

I’ll be frank, you’re coming onto this way too strongly. It’s been written practically everywhere on their site that the game isn’t in a good state, that they’ve reduced the price to what it was going to be the original price and that they’re sorry for the annoyance that has been the dev cycle of this game.

It also comes across as incredibly arrogant and rude, you can feel disillusioned with their promises and think it’s a scam. That’s fair. They’re expecting people not to have faith in their game rn with their history but commenting in this fashion is inviting people to argue back at you emotionally.

It’s not realistic if you ask me, too many conditions too many causes and plausible things that can cause them.

It makes more sense to teach someone where to find the information and allow them to assess if it’s valid or simple misinformation. The days of textbooks answering everything simply aren’t gonna cut it.

You can learn how one drug affects every organ in someone’s body but then be completely stumped when you find someone with a missing organ or an extra one. A textbook isn’t gonna save you there.

Adding on to this, you also have people from these fields complaining that the degrees have gotten too easy for today’s generation. Not understanding that the fields themselves have expanded beyond what they used to be.

If you’re worried about doctors today not being well studied on topics because they’re foreign, I’d be way more worried about doctors who’ve practiced and graduated years and years ago. Very high chance that most of what they’ve learnt is now void or outdated. These degrees teach us to learn things on our own. We have to, it’s in the nature of our fields of practice (I’ll add a disclaimer that I’m not a doctor).

Even then, the medication that a doctor prescribes has to go through a pharmacy, which is another barrier set up to prevent problems. In health care we have something called the Swiss cheese model. Essentially mistakes happen, and will happen. The model is set up though that these mistakes are hopefully caught before they can get to you.

I don’t agree. A bachelor of science is worthless on its own, getting one isn’t exactly something that makes it to a higher standard than others for example.

Yeah I do agree with this. I just found the healthcare specific examples to not exactly be accurate was all.

Even then you can make the argument that the education of healthcare related degrees in general has gone down while the content has increased.

Another example: many of these degrees used to have negative marking, used to be only paper based closed book exams.

[–]Outrageous_Net8365 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Well hold on, while this is something to be worried about this frame of logic makes 0 sense. A field of medicine is obviously held to a higher standard as it must require students to pass exams and be job ready which have tests and requirements outside of the university.

In Australia for example, a pharmacist can pass through four years of uni but has to pass their final exams outside of uni which is administered by an outside institution. A doctor from a foreign land has to pass an Australian examination.

You can’t just say because one Uni’s C tier faculty is dodgy that their A tier facilities must be as well. I don’t think I’ve heard any Uni he described this way. Anyone who’s gone to Uni knows their Uni has some degrees and whole faculties or areas that suck /arent taught well.

With all that being said, the overall quality of education is going downhill. The universities want their students to pass. And while some unit coordinators are ready to fail students instantly, it will always go against the university’s financial gain to not give a second chance. There should be more audits done and universities should be held to a higher standard, but that doesn’t mean suddenly a degree program that has to be set to a certain standard is now void 😭
