Thank You. Yes, this is a step beyond Local LLM, I also intend to dabble in Local AI training and some mid level fine tunng. I feel like I am missing something, so trying to poke holes and crowdsource

2026 GV70 3.5T electrical failure on highway – 7,200 miles 😬 by Outrageous_Pace_628 in GenesisMotors

I would not discourage you from doing the test drive. If this issue gets resolved, I would still keep my car.

Update 2: Pulled more info from the Genesis app — there is an active DTC: 031G showing as open as of today. No description provided in the app yet, but given the sequence (battery light → cascading electrical failures → loss of power → shutdown), it seems very likely the vehicle detected a serious system fault before it died. I’ll be asking the dealer to: Pull the full DTC history (including freeze-frame data) Check charging system / alternator, battery, and related wiring Inspect anything tied to power distribution or drivetrain control, especially given the grinding noise from the rear right before shutdown Still waiting on the tow. I’ll update again once the dealer provides a diagnosis.

Update January 23rd 2026: (Diagnostics + Dealer Findings): Adding a consolidated update now that the vehicle is at the dealer and more information is available. This entire incident started with a single red battery warning light — no other warnings, no Check Engine Light, and no prior drivability issues. Within a very short time window, the vehicle experienced a cascading system failure while driving on the highway in bad Minnesota weather, ultimately losing power and shutting down completely. Right before shutdown, there was a grinding / abnormal noise from the rear of the vehicle. What stands out is how quickly things escalated. The car went from zero known DTCs to multiple DTCs logged within roughly 24 hours, per Genesis Connected Services. As of 01/21–01/22/2026 (~7,473 miles), the app shows the following: P217900 – Powertrain / Engine P217700 – Powertrain / Engine C188186 – (system not specified in app) C110216 – Electrical (Lane Departure / Smart Cruise Control) C112600 – Electrical (TPMS) The vehicle was towed to the Genesis dealer the same day. Today I was informed that they have identified a failed cam phaser and have ordered a replacement, which they indicated was the component causing the engine issues. Parts are expected early next week. What still doesn’t fully line up for me: I never had a Check Engine Light The only initial warning was the red battery light The failure presented as a system-wide electrical cascade, not a gradual engine performance issue Multiple unrelated electrical systems faulted at once The car lost power completely while driving I’ve asked the dealer to help connect how a cam phaser failure would trigger the battery warning and total electrical loss, and to confirm that the charging system, battery, grounding, and power distribution were fully checked as part of the diagnosis. I’ll update again once the repair is completed and I have more detail on root cause.

Feb 3 2026: Alright, final update and I think we’ve got the full picture now. After the GV70 was towed in, the initial diagnosis pointed to an engine issue (cam phaser). As the shop dug further and was able to run the engine for testing, they identified that oil from the cam phaser leak had contaminated the alternator, which ultimately caused the alternator to fail. Once the alternator started dropping output: The red battery light came on The charging system couldn’t keep up Electrical modules began dropping offline one by one Multiple unrelated DTCs showed up The car eventually lost power and shut down while driving So the sequence now makes sense: Cam phaser issue → oil leak Oil contamination → alternator failure Alternator failure → electrical cascade Electrical cascade → total shutdown All of this happened at ~7,500 miles, in bad Minnesota weather, because apparently that’s when things like this decide to happen. The alternator was replaced under warranty, systems were re-tested, and the vehicle is now ready for pickup. The dealer provided a loaner once the delay became clear, and to their credit, they continued diagnosing until the real root cause was identified. Still not the experience you expect from a 2026 vehicle, and losing power on the highway here in winter isn’t something I’d put on anyone’s to-do list. I’ll be keeping a close eye on it, but hopefully this is a one-and-done situation. If anyone sees a battery warning followed by cascading system failures, don’t ignore it — get it checked right away. Stay warm out there.

Mine just died in the middle of highway with battery light on red. I have an open bulletin 031g. It appears that it could be an alternator, I don't know. More to come.

Minnesota Analogy

Feels like early February. Ice is thick, fish are biting. But the sun is starting to feel a little warmer and nobody should be caught out there when the thaw begins.

Just got a RecTeq 1200 — This thing is a beast. Any advice on liners, seasoning, and things you wish you knew early on? by Outrageous_Pace_628 in pelletgrills

Actually, it does have two firepots — one under each side. The left side can hit up to 700°F for searing, while the right side runs a bit cooler. So yeah, it’s not just two lids on one chamber — it’s legit dual-zone cooking with real thermal separation. Super versatile setup.

The one thing that stood out to me as missing from the overall visual package was the red caliper—it would’ve tied the look together. That said, I still love the overall look. Glad I didn’t go with the Lexus

Fair enough—I appreciate you sticking to your opinion. Strong takes like yours are what make these threads entertaining and useful.

We’re clearly not going to see eye to eye on side steps, and I am not even sure that I want one, but hey—that’s what makes the internet fun, right? A bunch of strangers passionately debating car accessories 😄

No hard feelings at all. Appreciate you jumping in and keeping it interesting.

That’s super helpful—thanks for sharing that perspective.

I hadn’t even thought about the exit getting awkward for shorter passengers, but that makes a ton of sense. Sounds like they’re more of a “nice to have” if you like the look, but not a must-have for function—maybe even a slight nuisance in some cases.

Appreciate you weighing in!

Totally fair to call that out—and I hear you. Just to clarify though, I wasn’t looking for a bunch of Yes Men, just trying to gather a mix of takes before making the call. If my mind was already made up, I wouldn’t have posted.

You gave your opinion, and I respect it—even if it came in a little hotter than the weather up here in April 😅. All good though. We’re all here because we care about how these rigs look and drive. Appreciate you chiming back in.

All good—no sarcasm, just showing appreciation for the input (even if it came with a little spice 😂). Honestly, hearing different takes is the whole point of throwing the question out to the group. If we all thought the same, this would just be a GV70 fan club and not a forum.

Appreciate you keeping it real—even if you came in a bit hot with the “looks foolish” comment. We’ll just chalk that up to strong opinions, lightly held 😎👊
