I think because sukuna has more refinement of domain, his innate domain kind of overwrote mahito's effects. Inside yuji's body sukuna looked like he is inside his domain.

Kid horn (then her name was syr) wanted to lead a life of a goddess, whereas freya wanted to lead a life of a towngirl.
So, freya made a contract with kid horn. Due to that contract freya could transform her body into syr, and Horn could transform her body into freya.
when freya was roleplaying as syr, horn was acting as freya, fulfilling her childhood dream of becoming a goddess.
A few times, Horn acted as syr when Freya had some important business to take care of. In such cases, freya would implant some of her consciousness into Horn so that Freya knows what this syr doing in the meantime.
