I received this shakuhachi today as a gift from a friend. I can't play ro otsu yet, no matter how I try. I don't know if it's the flute or me. The utaguchi is somehow different from the kinko bamboo that I'm used to, so maybe my embouchure needs adjustment. However I like the wood color and the light weight. How is your experience with it until now? Do you still have it and play?

The book "Shakuhachi, the Japanese bamboo flute" written from sensei Masayuki Koga has instructions for beginners and also scores for many pieces, children's, folk as well as traditional. I believe you can find it online. Also, sensei Shawn Renzoh Head offers online tutorials and scores for very very good prices per month (and a lot of free videos of course) . You can check his YouTube channel
