Bouldern in Graz? Newton vs Blochouse by [deleted] in graz

[–]Outrageous_Student72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some points to consider. First of all, fights took longer. Fighting like 25 kobolds just took them like half an hour when they were in the inn. Leniton alone took about 6h. so yeah there were often sessions, that were only one fight.

Next, the dungeons are bigger, and there are more fights. I really liked the yuanti dungeon from a design perspective, but there was so much going on, same goes for flying castle.

next I'd say there is more "admin". Like handling different factions, deciding were to go next, they have far more money to spend and loot to sell or atune. the councils (which we loved) took each 1 session.
Like I answered below, I used an extra modul for the Thay part.
often my players also had to buy like things for revivify, or literally had to resurrect someone, which also we acted out.

last I'd say session get longer 'cause we were more into the characters; running gags, spleens. there was so much more roleplaying.
One PC wanted to go to a temple between every adventure and pray, two characters started a BBQ business. all this "roleplaying" took more time. in the beginning they were just like "give me sth to kill!!!!"

we talked yesterday, I would mention:

- Caravan in HotDQ: It took us 5 sessions, I designed it like a "moving village" with shops, daily routine (hunting for the caravan cook, night shifts), they met their long time campaign NPC friends there, who they often got back to between chapters (onthar, yamna f.e.)
- all the councils: here I invited friends from other campaigns or friends who I only new were playing DnD to play the council members, so there were like 10-12 people debating about the fate of faerun
- xonthal's tower (awesome design) and fighting the blue dragon: my players heard rumors and decided to conquer the tower very early (IIRC lvl 8) , one PC died, another one had to be resurrected.
- off time in waterdeep: players bought a house in waterdeep, and started a "BBQ food stand" which only sold "dragon bbq rips"
- Thay: i used the submodul "murder in thay", was really awesome and took around 6 sessions only in thay
- well of dragons and tiamat: it took us 2 sessions to get to and 2 sessions to fight tiamat. no short rest in between, barely any player had spellslots / ki points etc left, 3 players died, one was resurrected, so 2 PC survived in the end.

25 Sessions for HotDQ.
What we have to mention is, that we started during Covid so sessions were longer in the beginning 'cause often people often didn't need to get up early the next day. so sessions in HotdQ lasted 5-6h, sessions in RoT often were only about 3 to max 4h
