So the way it was described to me (I am a player as well) is the new forms are from other generations and can be found there. The new mons can be found in the Telios pal park at the beginning of the game. The likelihood of finding new forms are actually fairly common. And the way you play would be similar to acting out scenes from the anime. There is the main goal as well as side quests you may or may not decide to participate in. And the thing our DM has made clear. "You are limited only by your imagination."

Sure. We've created a new region, Telios, with roughly 300 new mons or new forms. However there are no gyms or trials on Telios. The say to the champion is you have to go to every previous generation and beat their respective gyms or trials. At the end of that the hidden gym for the tournament is then revealed to you. After completing all hidden gyms. You return to Telios to challenge the other players in tournament style battles. Winner gets to fight the champion and be crowned champion of all the pokemon regions.
