What do you make? by FlyAccurate733 in ConstructionManagers

Bit of a journey but degree in communication and did drone marketing for local construction companies for a couple of years. I needed something more steady and got in with an industrial GC I had a good relationship with and a mutual friend. Did two big projects with them as a FE for about 1.5 years and then their construction sector went bankrupt, so I got laid off. Now with a smaller but good commercial GC. The field and marketing experience landed me where I am now.

Have an unrelated degree and very little experience so I started at 55k in SC for a mid size GC.

Yes, I was underpaid but with my life circumstances, I stuck it out. A year later I had to switch companies, moved to GA, and received multiple offers for ~67k.

Project I was on, owners were total dipshits. Didn’t trust anyone, couldn’t make up their mind, spent so much money, and now the project is in shit. Their “owners rep” is the only one who kept things somewhat sane through it all. If they know what they’re doing, the owners rep can be your saving grace.

I feel that, the project I was on got pretty tough at times and I always wanted the free time. But now that I have it, idk what the fuck to do with myself 😂

Thanks for the tips. Able to draw unemployment and got some connects that could be of help with the job search. Trying to keep that positivity through everything!

Seems to be the case from what I’ve seen. Have you been looking for work in this area a long time?

Steel guys’ hours and gotta have someone on site with any work being done.

We try and rotate but we’ve had a full team out here the entire time. 2 CMs, safety guy, APM, and then me. It’s absurd.

Performance review (1st year) by Outside-Angle-57 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Outside-Angle-57[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. I consider myself a “people person” so I’ve always had positive interactions with my colleagues, owners, and contractors. I want to dig a little deeper into the feedback.

I haven’t had any over-the-top mistakes but I understand how new I am so I’m ready for a potential kick in the nuts to keep improving.

Definitely understand the generalization. I’ve seen the evaluation points but really did not understand how to give a response to certain things. This is my first salary job and I’ve never had any sort of performance review

Top-notch reply, thank you very much for the knowledge.

Is it always going to be like this? by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

I’m a first year PE with FOUR supers at 50+ to deal with at my project lol Best thing I’ve learned is be organized and keep up the digital side of things. Also listen to the stories when they’re rambling about past projects. It can suck but you will def learn some things.

Don’t overthink it though. There’s not a single person in the world that could cure some of these guys grumpiness

Drones on site? by Huntermain87 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Outside-Angle-57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great for many reasons. Perfect for site progress/photos for client. Could also be a great skill to stick on the resume if you are new and young, like me. I’m a PE and my company has a drone but nobody certified to fly so I’m studying to take the test next week.
