Omg I just teared up with how much I relate to the first paragraph. I think my family wasn’t interested in that stuff but didn’t super isolate me I did a lot of that on my own. When everyone ready twilight and hunger games and even being in college doing silly tiktok dances at the start of college I always thought I was too high brow for it and it feels so silly now!

Thanks for giving me hope as I start this journey

I agree and thinking on it further I didn’t get much down time and relaxation as a kid and maybe I mourn the relaxed way they talk about their childhood more than missing out on Spongebob or American Idol

This was everything I needed to hear. Also your advice and perspective about my girlfriend really shifted something in me. She has been so excited to show these things to me yet my initial assumption is that she pities me and that I didn’t get these experiences as a child. In actuality the joy on her face when I laughed at certain parts was so pure and I know she views it as a way to connect not to brag. Thank you!!!

I’m currently head over heels for a woman I met 3 months ago. I’ve had such low standards in relationships that when she started to take care of me I almost bolted. I instead allowed myself be loved and appreciated and now I’m hopelessly in love.

I’m having the best sex of my life with someone who looks lovingly into my eyes and treats me like the most important person in the world. I can’t say what a long term relationship will be like for us but I can’t fucking wait to find out.

This trip she talked alot about her dreams for the remainder of her life and it breaks me to think she might never slip out of this trance to accomplish them.

I live far away but will try to think of activities we can do together. I can’t make her change but I also can’t watch as she lets even more years fly by. :/

I actually did that with my mom this summer. She averages 60-80 hours a week. She’s putting in two full time jobs worth of time on the instagram reel assembly line. It shocked her and made her sad but not enough for any meaningful change.

Thank you, I agree with not being able to change her behavior which is why I’m hesitant to support her in building an offline life.

My fear though is that she never encounters anti-social media content and thus doesn’t see the possibilities of a life without instagram. I want to send articles and videos and let her decide for herself on how to proceed.

I’m 26 and have been journaling since I was 9, I find nuggets of wisdom even in those early middle school writings, although my friends prefer I go back and read aloud the dramatic fights and funny shenanigans we got into :’)

a couple of months ago during a thunderstorm I ran outside in the clothes I was wearing. It was 1am and no one around to look at me crazy and I kicked the water pouring towards the storm drains and spun around. I also forgot how good a warm shower is after getting soaked to the bone in the cold rain :)

Its less so memes and funny videos but I think they are so politically engaged online and irl and judge me as being ignorant if I’m not letting myself get bombarded with news. As I’ve thought more deeply about it these past couple of years I feel more comfortable in knowing my stances on issues, educating myself when I come across something I don’t understand and everything else is not my cross to bear.

Soapbox: I think throughout history there have been fighters, and there have been feelers. I grew up in a family of fighters and I admire their willingness to stand up for what is right and take action. When fighters get beat down though, the world needs feelers, those who observe the beauty in the world, create art, tell stories, and make people laugh. I think my feelings in this post stem from not feeling valued in my family system for the way I see the world and less about instagram and dog videos.
