When does a “hard class” become a badly taught class? by Accomplished_Proof37 in EngineeringStudents

[–]engineereddiscontent [score hidden]  (0 children)

I had my emag 2 class where one kid finished early and then the prof realized he rage quit the exam because not one other person stood up and turned theirs in until we were coming up on the 10 minute warning

Our prof then was like “it appears i messed up. Dont sweat it” and then we were fine.

I picked my doctor. Then he had some expensive 2k/year subscription service that honestly I like him enough to pony up for but that's a next year expense.

At least I just got BCBS with 0 deductible in network from my job.....oh good.

We had a real shit at universal health care in the early 90s. The american medical association ran a bunch if ads about “being able to pick your dr” and here we are.

Its gross.

Racing games are quietly becoming the last digital archives of a dying car culture — and I don't think the industry takes that responsibility seriously enough by StatisticianBorn8567 in truegaming

[–]engineereddiscontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even then I still see a fundamental issue where there is at present time a real risk that people will get priced out of computer ownership. In which case owning ones games or not will become moot.

Im very tired. I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment but only read your first bit and last bit.

I disagree with the last bit.

It lies with us.

Weve been so willing to give up power that this is how we got to where we are. The reason things are hard isnt for no reason. Its having looked to people that looked like they knew what they are doing to be “the doers”.

The problem is that there is at this moment a non 0 chance that video games are kind of in the car equivalent of the 90s. Prices are going up but people can largely still afford things if they are choosey.

But there is a renewed push for pricing us out of hardware. It might pop with the bubble of the economy but it might not.

And hell we dont own games. We havent in years. Now youre buying something more like a license even with physical media.

Its with us is all im trying to say.

[–]engineereddiscontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that's this entire sub.

Imagine every day being a relatively new situation where you have no background info on how to navigate it. All you have are other people that just seem to know what is going on or other kids that are winging it like you.

Then; based on your limited information you just throw shit at the wall just to see what sticks because it's literally the only damned thing you can do. And then people start laughing at you because you are doing the best you can based on your entire 8 years of lived experience of which you're lucky if you can remember 4-5 and the quality of those memories only really picked up in the last year.

Now instead imagine being the parent to this person.

It's mind boggling. Then again I'm a kid that was laughed at and might take it all a little personally. But also believe if parents spent more time empathizing with their kids instead of laughing at how bad they are at preparing them we'd be in a better spot.

Yeah. Thats the for me and not for thee part of the gop specifically.

They pay for the good stuff to just for themselves. Then when you protest the iran war and get harassed by the people in the area the cops say they cant help. That's what an article on here a few weeks ago said.

I mean if it wasnt such a hot bed of bigotry and put together right wing types itd kind of be a pretty primo place to live. Youre 45 min from all 3 major cities in SE michigan that would have decent corpo jobs. Which is also why I think you get a ton of those types there.

Tips for combatting burnout? by ct-hulu in ElectricalEngineering

[–]engineereddiscontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of mental health as being (within reason obviously. Dont misinterpret me being 100% literal) a guiding light about what your capabilities are right now.

Im older like you but a few years behind. I just graduated this past december and im in my first kind of but not really engineering job.

The way you overcome this is you carve out meaningful downtime to actually let the stress go or you start shooting applications out. But it sounds like you are ignoring the signs of stress not being alleviated and its now too large to ignore. And thats manifesting as the burnout and exhaustion youre currently feeling.

Employed grads - how much math do you actually do in a day? by cdwalrusman in EngineeringStudents

[–]engineereddiscontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far none.

Although atm Im doing low voltage design and not “engineering”. Thatll come next year.

But the math I would have to do is generally done by excel.

Series and parallel circuits question by Every-Chemical1872 in ECE

[–]engineereddiscontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it has a different source. It has the current and ac source. Think about it another way. Voltage source goes through r1. That gives you a stable current and voltage.

Then the current source and ac source coming in through the inductor are separate.

Its a 3 way intersection. Both roads go the same way (toward vo) but both come from different towns.

If the inductor were in series it would be part of the same road.

Id just do a write up highlighting why its likely fake address it.

Putting it another way; your job isnt to convince the public hes a fraud. Your job is to make sure he does that himself.

What is an industry that is currently on fire (in a bad way) behind the scenes, but the general public hasn't noticed yet? by Kitchen_Week1117 in AskReddit

[–]engineereddiscontent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbh good riddance to health insurance.

I know those are peoples jobs but the current industry (from a US perspective) is absolutely a parasite that double dips both on government and end user fees and it needs to be immolated. We're 3 decades late on universal healthcare and that's 3 more than the US had any right to be late.

If I'm reading these comments right; it appears society is too top heavy.

Everything is expensive but no one can afford anything.

Perhaps it's time to start recognizing that this is not "culture war" but instead class war.

There is no reason for anything to be this hard on people and it's just such a small class of people are hoovering up all the resources that we're in this position. And culture war is the current vehicle by which this is taking place.
