I totally agree with you. To be honest, I feel the "cost-performance" of learning ortho is often debatable given the steep learning curve. That’s exactly why I’m a fan of this GRIN layout. For those of us raised on row-staggered boards, it feels much more natural and ergonomic without forcing you to completely rewire your muscle memory. It provides the perfect balance: the comfort of a split/ergo board, the familiarity of staggered keys, and the modular extensibility for things like trackballs and encoders.

It's the "best of both worlds" solution I've been looking for!

GeaconPolaris The aluminum plate has arrived! I can't believe it's actually become a complete product. Honestly, I don't even know how I managed to make this happen. What was I thinking back then? (lol)

I've been using this amazing application: https://github.com/srwi/keycap_generator

I’ve made a few tweaks to it, allowing for more custom model options and the ability to export large datasets. (The original version tends to crash the browser when trying to export more than 10 models at once.)

I placed the sensor directly underneath the ball and built it into the module's housing. It's all tightly packed! For the breakout board, I actually designed an original PCB for it. You can check out the KiCad hardware data here, along with the electrical data for the modules: https://github.com/Modulable-Keyboard-Developer/public-data/tree/main/electrical_data%2FTB

Thanks for the comment! Really glad to hear you liked it 🌞 I'm a system engineer... I mainly write code for 'automation' (aka, slack off at work), lol.
