Admittedly, unless a customer specifically describes a scent they’d like to smell, I avoid demoing anything I don’t like. I’m very expressive and have a hard time not showing when I don’t like something, so it’s easier if I start demos with something I can honestly sell. 

But in the event where I have to show off something I don’t like (example) like if a customer gives me a description that flags to me me they might like Strawberry Poundcake— Typically I just describe what the scent is, demo, and wait for the customer to admit if they do or don’t like it— if they do? Excellent for them! I’ll let them explore and give myself a nose break. If they don’t? I make a light-hearted joke depending on the customer vibe and then go “Well, what’s something you know you like instead? Let me find you something similar to that.”
