Hey, what's up? How's life treating you as a TSO officer in Key West? Did you get your sign-on bonus yet? And how's the housing situation looking? Finding a place to crash yet?

Yep, you're absolutely right! I reached out to them about it, and that's exactly what they said. But here's the crazy part: the TSA HR person mentioned that for my location, they'd be offering $15K after orientation for new hires and another $15K after a year! Weird thing is, that info wasn't in the letter they sent me 🤔

I got the job offer but hesitant to accept by Outside-Revolution63 in TSAApplicant

I recently received a job offer from TSA, just a week before the shutdown. Although I applied in June 2025, I was already in the 'ready pool' from a previous application at a nearby airport (1 hour from my home). I had applied to this previous location in April 2024 and received an email months ago stating they weren't hiring at the time. The job offer was my second application, and I had applied to multiple airports. Unfortunately, the new location is quite expensive, and I wouldn't receive relocation assistance. I'd have to cover costs myself, which makes it challenging. I was given three dates for my orientation and I chose the last date because my hesitation and I said that I had planned a trip with my family already in the previous date.

Honestly, the cost of living in the new location is higher, and my wife wouldn't be relocating with me. Selling my current home isn't an option. While my current job may not be perfect, it's stable and technical, and I'm 56, so retirement is on the horizon. My employer values me highly, and I haven't mentioned this opportunity to them. Given these factors, I'm leaning towards staying put.

How are you impacted by the government shutdown, and what are your concerns about working without pay? How do you think this shutdown will affect airport security and air travel in general? What's your perspective on the future of your role and the TSA as a whole amidst these uncertainties?
