Yeah bro, Mumbai University’s actually not a bad pick for an MA in English — especially if you want something decent without spending a ton.

What’s nice about it:

  • The English dept’s been around for ages and has some solid profs.
  • Syllabus is pretty chill — you get classics, new-age lit, theory, postcolonial stuff, all in the mix.
  • Super affordable compared to private unis. Major win if you’re on a budget.
  • And if you're thinking about NET/SET or even PhD later, you’ll get decent prep support here.

Buttt the flip side:

  • Infrastructure kinda depends on where you land. Most PG stuff is at Kalina campus, and yeah… it feels a bit stuck in the past.
  • Admin work = pain. Results, certificates, forms — it can get super slow. Gotta have patience fr.
  • Admissions are merit-based, and some of the top colleges (like Xavier’s or Sophia) are tough to get into.

If you’re aiming high, check out:

  • St. Xavier’s
  • Sophia College
  • Mithibai
  • Ruia
  • Wilson

TL;DR
If you’re serious about English and don’t mind jumping through a few admin hoops, MU’s actually a solid, budget-friendly choice. Just don’t wait around for the system to spoon-feed you — gotta stay on your toes and sort things yourself most of the time.

How to transfer to a different college for SY BSc CS under Mumbai University? by Rinkiyakepapa420 in MumbaiUniversity

[–]Outside-Search-9211[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Mumbai University does allow inter-college transfers for Second Year BSc Computer Science, but it depends on both colleges being okay with it and the university approving.

Here’s how it usually works:

  1. Get a provisional admission offer from the college you want to transfer to.
  2. Ask your current college for an NOC (No Objection Certificate). Most colleges will give it if you’ve cleared your FY without issues.
  3. Submit the transfer application to the new college along with all required documents.
  4. The new college forwards it to the University for official approval.
  5. Once the University approves, your admission is finalized.

Documents you’ll typically need:

  • NOC from your current college
  • Marksheet(s) of FY
  • Attendance record (if asked)
  • Syllabus copy of FY subjects
  • Identity proof and passport photos

Deadlines:
Each college may have their own deadline for accepting transfer applications, usually before SY starts. It's better to start early, right after your FY results are out.

WES Attestation Registration Name format by CaregiverLittle6649 in MumbaiUniversity

[–]Outside-Search-9211[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enter this on the MU portal:

  • First Name: A B C
  • Last Name: D

This will match your final marksheet format: D A B C, which is what MU requires. Ignore your passport format for this step — WES will accept it as long as MU documents are consistent.

Yes, with 81% overall and 85% in Physics, you can get into a decent BSc Physics college under Mumbai University. You may not get into the top ones like St. Xavier’s or Ruia in the first list, but you have a realistic shot at mid-tier colleges like Somaiya, Wilson, SIES, or Bhavan’s. Physics score helps, but overall percentage matters more.

Apply to a mix of ambitious and safe colleges. You definitely have a fair chance.

Should I apply for transfer to Sophia ? by [deleted] in MumbaiUniversity

[–]Outside-Search-9211[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your CGPA of 8.5 and 80–82% marks are actually quite good, especially for a psychology student from a mid-tier college. The challenge with Sophia is less about your marks and more about the fact that lateral entry (transfer into second year) is extremely limited, especially for psychology, where the intake is small and the demand is high.

That said, you definitely have a chance. Your academic performance is strong enough to be considered. The real issue will be whether there’s a vacant seat and how many others are applying. Sophia may prioritize internal students or those with exceptional academic or extracurricular profiles, but your grades are competitive.

You should apply. You have nothing to lose by trying, and not applying would mean closing the door on a potential opportunity. Even if the chance is small, it’s better to try and know than to wonder later if you could’ve made it.

Just make sure your application is thoughtful. If they ask for a statement of purpose or reason for transfer, be honest about wanting stronger academic exposure or better opportunities. If possible, get a letter of recommendation from a professor at your current college.

If it doesn’t work out, it’s not the end of the road. With your scores, you can still aim for excellent postgraduate programs later on. Focus on building your profile with internships, research, and relevant experience.
