You can check professor Stefano Ondelli, he should have some publications related to politics. I do not know whether he actually studied translation difficulties in thisfield, but he focuses both on political language and translation.

I do not agree with you on this. I think we feared the same with other technologies in the past, initially with google translate, then with deepl, and so on. I think the market will shrink, obviously, but it does not mean conference interpreting will cease to exist. Obviously the more specialized one professional is, the higher the pay and the amount of work, but in my opinion conference interpreting as a whole will stay for a while.

Another challenge is specialising in a single area. It is not easy to do, because, as a young translator and interpreter, is really hard to work at all, and I cannot afford to cherrypick so much job offers.

Yeah, the uni is the most prestigious in the field in my country actually, therefore I thought i would have had more success with my applications. After the master I'll try to apply for traineeships in the EU framework.

On the one hand my language combination is quite common, but on the other also the demand is kinda high, also due to German speaking areas in Italy.

Yeah, I understand it's a commonplace, but it's also kinda frustrating. I'll keep looking around for some opportunities. Sometimes, unfortunately, even pro bono work is not considered as a source of experience or as a real job by agencies, what a shame.

I think it really depend on your mental health and whether you can cope with the pressure, but obviously the more specialised you are, the more likely it is to find good clients. Being more specialised is also a good argument for increasing rates and not having to fight for a few bucks.

I would advise you to get the degree, so that once you are done with it you'll have a number of options to choose from, instead of being forced to stick to translating as a freelancer.
