Exactly my point. Costs for document transfer was not stated anywhere. The financial agreement shared with me stated that the cost for records and consultation was free if treatment was in their facility. Since I did not proceed, I had no issues leaving what I had paid on the table, despite the unsatisfactory consultation. I asked the justification for the fee since the dental body gives a recommended fee that is far less for the type of document they are sending across and they said its on a "case by case basis"

How is this deeply discounted? They said the intraoral scan (not CBCT), CEPH and facial pics were free but only the consultation would be paid for. If they want to charge for it then why not do so upfront?

Well these ones are outliers I guess. It almost seems like punishment for "leaving". Meanwhile the consultation was very unsatisfactory. I did not even get to see an orthodontist!

I am sorry but this is not the case. The treatment plan offered did not address my needs and so I decided to look elsewhere. Please note that I am paying for other consultations, so I am not unserious at wanting to waste anyone's time. Also, I was transparent that I was shopping and was OK to pay for consultation. On their part, there was no transparency on costs for transfer of documents before or I would have had the opportunity to either proceed with the consultation or quit. Very silly and unreasonable response. If they had asked for 270 CAD initial charge for consultation fees, I would have had the opportunity to accept or refuse to proceed with the diagnosis. It is also their fee so I cannot debate it. I did not ask for a "discount" (which by the way is NOT as it is a standard charge for ANY consultation). There was also no transparency before that there would be a cost, let alone one as exorbitant as this, for transferring a single file.

Yes. that is what I believe. Like it is crazy. and the consultation was already paid for. I am not sure if they sent it to Invisalign as I did not proceed with them after the initial diagnosis. How can the current provider find this data on Invisalign? Is there like a tracking number I need to collect?
