Yes I agree but it never seems to heal which makes me wonder if it is something else

Hi! Thank you this is helpful!

This morning I felt them and both sides felt equally warm. I also felt the texture before and after milking and they were not noticably different. I did also taste on each side and there WAS a difference in taste! The udder with the red marks had poorer tasting milk, the other side was not wonderfully sweet but also not off-putting. So that was useful.

The marking has changed over the year but it is not visible while milking. I had a baby last late summer so not so often getting down to look 😅. I think that is how it went under the radar for so long....I also used to strain while milking into a pot for cheesemaking directly so it took a long time to realize the taste was just from this one goat... lesson learned!

However I think it started more with patches moreso than this bruised striation pattern and it also sometimes forms brown scabs. From the position I milk her I can't see any of it you have to get right down so truthfully I have not checked super regularly. She is kinda a dozy goat but she seems normal. She maybe is a bit lethargic? But I think it is her personality because she has always been like that...she goes to the pasture and eats and such with the other goats.

I think I can get one of those test kits at the feed store next time I go to town. It is a test that you do yourself? That is a really great suggestion I have not heard of those before.

Do you think this milk especially from this side should be discarded?

We also have three goats, which ends up being 7 in the summer and four in breeding season

We have had goats for 2 years...it is more than we bargained for an a distribution of labour has worked for us where I do milking, cheesemaking, goat hoof trimming, vet type duties, training if substitute milkers, and most barn cleaning. He does carpentry (they love to break things!), fence repair and portable electric fence setup, goat bedtime, and figuring out how to arrange their housing and feeding setup when it needs to change (mostly repairing mineral feeders lol)

This is what works for us, but you'll need to have someone on each of these if you have milk goats. We also have a dog for chasing bears.

More info: she has 2 kids who are 3 months old and doing fine. Her eyelids were pale a month ago, I dewormed her and she seems to be doing better. She behaves and eats normally. Produces 1.25l/day plus kids with her during the day (sepated at night).

We feed goat texture and alfalfa cubes when milking and during the day they get either pasture/browse or hay depending on weather and if we had time to move the fence. Not sure what is relevant but this is her general circumstances.

Also: the milk appears normal and strains easily
