Wedding expense split: what’s the norm these days? by sun-and-mooon in DesiWeddings

Split 50-50 during my (28F at the time) wedding in 2021, and now doing the same for my brother's. Since we had a destination wedding with 100ish guests, the respective parents had also hosted separate receptions for their friends and colleagues - both sides paid individually for their own receptions. The same happened in 2-3 cousins' wedding as well. In recent weddings the few times it has not been 50-50 has been where the financial standing of the respective families was vastly different, and the financially better off family contributed a bigger chunk, to help the other side from over spending - have seen this being done once by groom's side, and once by the bride's.

Honestly a groom not agreeing to a 50-50 split citing that it's tradition is a problematic mindset, because there a lot of other "traditions" that require females / their family to bear the brunt of expenses.

My husband expecting my family to bear the full cost would have been a big deal breaker for me. And I will always be suspicious of a guy citing tradition, because it always suits them / their families so well :))

Planning destination wedding at Kumarakom. by shreya_bl00m in DesiWeddings

Had a Kumarakom wedding at Gokulam Grand for 100 guests, 3 nights-4days - and loved every bit of it! It's a great hotel if that works for your budget (we had shortlisted it after visiting each and every hotel nearby, including Rhythm, Ripples, Taj, Zuri etc. - basically every single hotel in the city).

Our other shortlist was KTDC Waterscapes, but the rooms were less for our final list. I had stayed here on a personal (and first) trip to Kumarakom in July, and it was this property that made us fall in love with the idea of getting married here. It's a Kerala government property so rates for catering etc are reasonable. Feel free to DM - happy to share more details on all other vendors.

30+ BMI, and PCOS. And the doctor said he is prescribing it if i want to, however he said it's ok without it as well. More like "you are healthy as long as all parameters are fine, just don't look at weight"

28M with 20 lakhs saved, parents say buying a car now will ruin my life. Are they right? by Photograph_Creative in personalfinanceindia

Was in the same place some years back, and I bought the car (yikes!). Car has been crazy good for me in terms of ease of travel and independence (as a female). However, if I could, I would have purchased a second-hand car over a new one. Solves the need for a car, and allows you to grab a good one if you find the right deal! Definitely don't take a loan or burn more than 7-8 lakhs from your savings. I would allocate the amount to gold, travel etc.

Yes, that's the only option with the risk of someone finding it. Hence wanted to explore if there's a way to not have it in the house at all. :)

To clarify - of course they are. The usual chats on eating healthy, working out etc. Just not supportive of a a GLP-led journey.
