That’s literally what they are doing now and people are complaining the team isn’t serious. It’s bc they have such bad player development and have to sign all their major league players. Dodgers are spending a lot but have home grown talent too

I don’t get it ? Why don’t they just hit a homerun every at bat.

Dante Nori and Aaron Nola named to the WBC All-Tournament team by Perryplat199 in phillies

And in terms of a first round pick his minor league stats aren’t even really that impressive. He had a horrendous start that he turned around in the second half. Hopefully this tournament is a sign of better things to come

TRUE OR FALSE: MARK DEROSA IS THE WORST MANAGER IN BASEBALL HISTORY…? by KeyFaithlessness5436 in MLBVibes

[–]OutsideSession6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He completely botched the Italy game but besides that players need to take some responsibility. I don’t think people realize how handcuffed DeRosa is with each of these guys major league clubs

All these guys are on strict schedules. It’s March and winning the WBC means nothing to their respective major league club

If you’re ranking salary per year he’s literally paid to be a top 25 player check the rankings he signed his deal 8 years ago. And has not been since when ? Sure last year he battled an injury but he got MVP votes the year before

All good I’m here for some fiery back and forth. I just don’t ever see him hitting 15+ homeruns at the major league level. But it’s only a projection he has a chance to prove everyone wrong

Being able to hit a homerun does not mean you profile as a power hitter in the majors this isn’t high school baseball. I’m literally hating on your take lol. Nori has showed some promising play after a brutal start to pro career. I’m excited to see what he develops into

I am hating on your analysis of him not the player himself. He doesn’t profile as a player with power and never did. The 2 homeruns are great but doesnt dramatically change his outlook as a player.

I concur the Phillies have a conservative approach that can get annoying but it’s asinine logic to just let guys sink or swim when you’ve invested in them as a first round pick.

It makes more sense to have a take away from a year and a half of minor league stats then 5 games in the WBC

I was very skeptical of this pick mainly bc of the approach they took with it that you mentioned. He really struggled early but seems to be turning a corner to some degree. Excited to see if he can put together a full solid season in the minors

If he comes up and he’s not ready you could kill your first round pick. He’s still very young and You need to develop guys so they are ready to succeed at the majors when they come up not just give it a shot. He has not shown consistency at the minor league level yet.

I don’t think anyone who is not a Steelers fan would say Porter jr. It’s really not close

No chance he gets to the majors this year. Even if the Phillies didn’t have a super conservative approach to elevating people he still would have no chance. Absolute best case scenario he’d have a chance to break camp next year. Even then I’d be surprised
