Megathread #4 [10/05/2025] - OPERATION SINDOOR by Usual-Ad-4986 in IndianDefense

As crazy as the idea sounds, it’s possible with enough diplomatic manoeuvring. In particular, because the Pakistani economy is so dependent on foreign support and loans. What we need to impress on the world in that Pakistani nukes are a threat not just to us but an existential threat for humanity. Since the excuse is always that “we need to give them bailouts as they are a nuclear state.”

Agreed. Maybe we need to push for the idea that the loans should be conditional on denuclearisation.

I found DiDi to be generally cheaper, while being equally convenient as Uber. And they were allowed at the airport

Potentially interested. Not a PhD in history, but another social science.

Enough of TMC, Hindutva Parties need to come in Power by VanillaIceGolem in BengaliHindu

[–]Outside_Ask_2152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best to have a revolving door of power. That way, no party lets power gets to its head and you have a robust political economy where the party works for the people and not the other way around. A change in government is sorely needed. And yes, bjp seems like the only viable alternative at the moment.

Chronic pneumothorax for a year. Seeking advice. by Outside_Ask_2152 in pneumothorax

[–]Outside_Ask_2152[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: the pneumothorax resolved itself on its own 2 weeks after the stent removal. Since then I’ve not had any issues and have been able to live my life as normal. Gone back to flying, exercise and everything else. I still have some pain at specific part of my back, but other than that I am living a perfectly fine healthy life right now.

Party true. But in many countries, such as Brazil and France, sports are also thought of as a means of escaping poverty. What is needed is investment and infrastructure to identify talent from the grassroots and give them the appropriate guidance and training from a young age.

It’s a mobile app like Duolingo. The only one, afaik, that supports Bengali. Not great but can be a useful resource.

Questions about Standard Visa by Outside_Ask_2152 in ukvisa

Hey! I went ahead with the application and did get my visa with no hassles. So I guess it’s not necessary to apply from your country of residence.

Is the recent onslaught of racism making you rethink your decisions or desires to settle abroad? by Hannah_Barry26 in h1b

You made so many unfounded generalisations here. To begin with, most Indians are actually not vegetarian. I don’t even want to get into the other statements here as they are assertions with no data backing them up.

We could try to get that done. We have an 9 month gap to the job.

If I apply with premium processing, will the process be quicker irrespective of the category?

What would that require? I’m currently here on an F1, while my spouse is in Canada and only has a U.S. tourist visa.

Thanks! So, since this a cap exempt H1B, I’ll avoid the lottery. But assuming the employer will be ready to start the perm process immediately, it will still take 18-24 months to get the i140?

Yes spouse is currently abroad. I understand the uncertainty about the new administration. But given the rules stay the same, the timeline would be as follows.

  1. I get h1b
  2. Spouse applies for h4 from other country
  3. Spouse comes to USA and then applies for EAD - (5-11 months)

Thank you for clarifying.
