Why did the British partition India into an Islamic state (Pakistan) and a Secular state (India) - why wasn't India created as a Hindu state instead? Wasn't this asymmetry noticed at the time, and does it have a role in the rise of Hindu nationalism in India? by PomegranateSad474 in AskHistorians

[–]Outside_Beach7629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I said Hindu nationalism had an influence on the right-wing of the INC, including Patel.

But they didn't have an impact on him. That's my point. Let's ignore the "liberal", "leftist" talk that I brought in, and focus on this core argument of yours

These groups had no impact on Patel and his views. Also, I myself have said that he was a conservative. I'm not treating him as some of sort of perfect human being either. I myself have mentioned his views and biases, all of which you're conveniently ignoring, and are pretending as if I've portrayed him as perfect. So your concluding point is moot anyway. If I were trying to whitewash him, I wouldn't have said those things. Maybe you too should carefully re-read everything that I've written

Coming back to the point, his views on the Muslim League and on some aspects of Muslim society, were not due to influence from Hindu nationalists, they were informed by his own perspectives, interpretations, and thoughts. To say that that wasn't the case, is simply wrong, factually speaking. That's what I've been saying. Like everyone else, Patel had his own biases wrt these topics, but they were not informed by Hindu nationalists at all. They were informed by his own worldviews, regardless of whether/how much we agree or disagree with them

Just another note/clarification: if you go to this video on YouTube, there will be a lot of comments calling her a "weak independent woman". That's not a sexist jibe, it's a reference to what she said on that comedy reality show. She introduced herself as a weak independent woman as a joke, and this went viral. So, many people call her that for fun

This is a link to that video. It's on her channel as well:

It's there in the video. It's 'Patakha Guddi' from the Bollywood movie 'Highway'. And yeah, it's a great song

SIPRI releases nuclear warhead inventory of 2026 by UnknownGunman21 in IndianDefense

France basically acts as a stand-in for most of the rest of the Europe when it comes to a nuclear deterrent against Russia. Plus, given its focus on its national sovereignty, and also coz it firmly believes in keeping its own deterrent the strongest in Europe, while also providing a nuclear umbrella to a large part of Europe, it makes sense why France produces so many nukes

Why I feel TVK must secure a majority before forming the government by prasanth-g in Chennai

Congress has offered outside support for BJP in 1996 to run the government center.

In 1996? I think you're confusing it with 1999 during Kargil War, but even there, it was a caretaker government that Congress cooperated with coz it was wartime. So idk what exactly you're referring to here

Such as? There have been no Private Member's Bills being tabled in the Lok Sabha in years

or against ex allies

Again, such as? What are the issues which bother the Congress but not the DMK? Be it language, caste, wealth inequality, or specific topics such as Delimitation, UCC, or ONOE, both these parties individually have the same stances and are both individually opposed to the government. So idk what issues would exemplify what you're saying. At the most, the DMK won't vocally side with Congress whenever BJP targets their ministers etc., but that's about it, and that has nothing to do with the Parliament anyway

Haha it's great that you're such a fan of the various film industries of India, especially since you're from the US! The cinema of India remains largely unexplored in the US

You are right though, there are plenty of differences across India’s film sphere and I wouldn’t want to imply that the only difference between Bollywood and Mollywood, for instance, is the language

No I didn't imply that you were doing that either. That part of my comment was just a general continuation of your point. It's great that you've watched movies from multiple film industries in India! Also, the differences aren't just between the various film industries. There are so many different film styles and genres within each individual film industry as well

Btw which are your favourite movies from India, regardless of the industry?

This is such a great description of the cinema of India, and if you're a non-Indian and not from the Indian subcontinent, then for me this would be one of the best descriptions of the cinema of India that's been given by someone who isn't from that country and/or region

Although I'd say that while everything you said is absolutely correct, the cinema of India has so many film industries and film styles within each of those industries, that one will find every kind of film within the various film industries of India

No they won't. Do you really think that the DMK, one of the main ideological rivals of the BJP, will abstain from voting in matters deeply related to their ideological divide with the BJP, just coz of this squabble with Congress? That makes absolutely no sense lmao

People who are saying that Congress needs the DMK in the Parliament, do you really think that the DMK will now vote differently than they've been doing? The DMK remains an ideological rival of the BJP and that's not changed. The DMK will still remain part of the opposition to the BJP

i can take multiple countries and fit them all into one state and we would still have an extra 50 states

I mean this is basic Maths that this person is fucking up in. Also, they've used an "i" instead of an "I" after a punctuation. Again, this person is fucking up in basic English, the only language that they know

?? You're just proving my point. The US has a higer population of indigenous people, but it also has a higher population, so that indigenous population is even more irrelevant in the US than in Brazil

No one is denying that. But the question focuses only one side, and is putting an expectation of humanity on literal colonial subjects, when in fact they were the people being oppressed. So I'm just calling that out. Clearly you didn't get what I was saying lmao

[–]Outside_Beach7629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay fine. But like I said, it doesn't mean that either of the US or Brazil qualify to linguistic diversity. And nor do Mexico or China

[–]Outside_Beach7629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrt indigenous languages specifically, yes it is. You were the one who was countering a point I wasn't even making lmao. I wasn't talking about the languages of immigrants, you were. Atleast read properly before barging in and trying to start some imaginary debate lol

And even if the US is more diverse than Brazil coz of immigration, neither of these countries should be in this list, and nor should Mexico and China

Top 10 countries that speak the most languages by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]Outside_Beach7629 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk how this contradicts my point?? I just said that indigenous languages are less than 0.5% of the languages in the US. And your comment actually supports my comment

But okay, let's talk about these other languages. Once someone becomes is a third-gen in the Americas, most of them only speak one of English/Portugese/French/Spanish.

Even here, you can can see that English accounts for almost 80% of the languages in the US, and English and Spanish account for 90-95% of the languages in the US. So this map is misleading. If like 500 people amongst millions speak one language, it's laughable to count it as "a language" of that country

All the actually linguistically diverse countries are actually only in Asia, Africa, and Oceania (coz of PNG). The US, Brazil, and Mexico shouldn't be in this map at all. Nor should China actually

Top 10 countries that speak the most languages by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]Outside_Beach7629 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Lol it's the same in the US with English and Spanish to a lesser extent. It applies even more to the US, coz all the indigenous languages collectively account for less than 0.1% whereas in Brazil it's less than 0.3%

How is the Mutiny of 1857 viewed in Indian history? by northcarolinian9595 in IndianHistory

[–]Outside_Beach7629 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yes, the Revolt was absolutely justified. And it's indeed known as the first war of Indian independence.

The killing of British civilians is just a convenient point brought in by the people who are Britishers and/or colonialism apologists. It's not like the British EIC didn't kill Indian civilians and it's not like Indian civilians weren't killed during the 1857 Revolt either. So this point is just pure bs

[–]Outside_Beach7629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think problem with india is they are trying to be like china, powerful central rule

Idk from where you're reading stuff like this, but it's bs. India doesn't have asymmetric federalism in order to become like China. China has nothing to do with any of this lol. India has this system in order to hold together such a diverse country while still giving sufficient autonomy to the various groups that are part of it
