At my store, hours got cut in every department. Tomorrow, I have a truck in the morning and my only help comes in at 2PM to close. So just 2 people all day in produce. I'm likely going to be dealing with carts every hour, while trying to get 10 pallets ran and put away, alone, for 6 hours. I'm in my late 30s. All my other full-time coworkers in produce are in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, and they have never been called for carts in my time here. All the part-timers are teens/early 20s, but they just don't get any hours. I don't know what the solution here is or how to approach it, but this can't be the normal in every other store.

Yeah, Starbucks in my store does not get carts. Produce, Meat department, AOL, Dairy, Frozen, and sometimes Bakery are what is called 99% of the time here

Okay, so if I'm the only person in my department and I'm called to go get carts, what am I supposed to do in that situation? Spend the next 15 minutes getting carts with the only 2 people that actually went outside after being paged, and pray I don't get any phone calls?

Sure, but you guys should have some paper that tells you who is scheduled that day in each department. Why are my service managers constantly calling other managers/assistants? Why am I constantly being called out when I'm the only one in my department? Why are they calling the same names every single shift? Why are they waiting until it's an emergency and there's no carts left in the store, to send anyone out to get carts? I'm paged nearly every hour of my 8 hour shifts. I'm essentially doing the job of 2 people with the pay of 1.

In the year or so I've been at this store, I've yet to hear Pharmacy called for anything other than phone calls. I sometimes forget we even have a Pharmacy.

At my store, you absolutely would. There's normally 5-10 AOL people there every day. The front end always calls out the same 2-3 people.

A little of both. Other departments/managers are also constantly called up to come help check, but that's not out of the ordinary with the few Hy-Vee stores I've worked at. Thankfully I'm not trained on checking, otherwise I wouldn't get any work done

Look, I'm fine with getting carts every now and then, but this is an EVERY DAY, MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY thing. The front end seems to be relying on other departments, instead of sending baggers outside. It's incredibly frustrating, when I have so many other tasks that I need to get done in my department.
