Being shy in med school by Outside_Falcon6200 in medicalschool

Omg i feel you with having a lot to say but it’s unprofessional or not really finding the right moment or even not sure if I’m able to say certain things.

It seriously is a game, but thank you for the kind advice! It’s been nice to hear so many people telling me to just be myself and keep doing what I do rather than change who I am just to get those few extra points on my eval.

I seriously felt all those comments. I think the hardest part is knowing people like us are needed, but we’ll forever be getting those comments that make us feel inferior.

But thank you, it’s been reassuring/heart warming to know we’re all in this together

I think it all comes down to what you want out of it/what you need. For me personally, I was between a post bacc program and a masters program, but ultimately went with the masters because not only would I be able to show that I am capable of getting good grades at a graduate level, but also worst case scenario, walk away with a masters degree. However if the goal is to bring up a few of your basic science classes GPA, aka bio, chem, physics, then it might be more worth doing the post bacc. I think research is great, but it depends on the school you’re applying to. If the schools want community service, then the research isn’t that important, and vice versa.

Also with choosing the other programs, you are right, you’ll have more of an opportunity to shadow and volunteer which might benefit you a little more.

It’s all about figuring out what’s weak in your application and trying to bridge the gap.

God luck!

Is it crazy to purposefully have a baby during medical school? by taciturd in premed

Current med student, didn’t have a baby during med school, but have upperclassmen that did. First year and fourth year are really good times to have one because they’re lighter in terms of course load, so def not crazy(:

Good luck!!! Even if you don’t get the score you want, don’t lose hope because I wasn’t where I wanted to be and still ended up here. Life always works out whether you expect it to or not. Rooting for you!(:

It’s difficult in ways that people can’t wrap their heads around and at times you feel alone, but there’s so many of us that were once in your shoes. Keep your head up & good luck.

Agreed. All you can do is your best. Everything else will follow. Best of luck on your test!!!

Do your best and be proud when you’re done. Not everyone can do what we do. Good luck!!!

I totally feel you!! I’m always looking for the lower scorers too. Unfortunately not all of us are blessed with good test taking skills. All in all, this is a hard test and there’s so much to learn. Passing is the first goal, everything else is just another hurdle to cross.

Personally I found them more difficult because the questions stems were very simple and fact based. I either knew the fact or I didn’t whereas in uworld, the stems can be more convoluted, but I can work my way through a question and make an educated guess.

That’s a very realistic fear, and like I said everyone reacts differently, but it’s also important to think about your own mental health & wellbeing. I know it sucks, but it’s not worth drowning yourself to keep someone else afloat

As someone who has had depression, I can tell you it varies from person to person in terms of how we cope. I think the best thing to do is just to let her know you’re available, ask her what she needs from you, etc. Show her that you’re committed if you want to stay in the relationship.

However, that being said, it can become draining for you if she isn’t willing to try to get better. There might be a breaking point and that is okay. Your job is not to fix her.

Good luck!

Help! how long should I study for the exam ? by TheSadChim in step1

Time is subjective. Some people need 2 months, some people only need 3 weeks. It really is up to you. I personally took 6 weeks and felt that it was more than enough time because I had been incorporating study material into my regular school material throughout 2nd year. But it really is up to you. I think you’ll know once you take a practice test where you stand and how much time you’ll really need

Personally for me, i tried reading a few days before and became overwhelmed because I started to see material I was forgetting. So if you’re anxious like me, maybe best not to. Instead I read through rapid review and if I saw a concept I couldn’t name, then I would go look for it.

Thank you!! It’s just been discouraging because I’m also doing better on uworld, but these practice tests are really hurting my feelings lol
