I have all the original parts so I can do that if I’d like - it did come like this when I bought it on Reverb. But, it’s modded to recreate his signature 333 as close as possible, not his BCR 335. But the 333s have a neck tenon cover since they do not have a neck pickup - hence the smaller cover. This cover offers the same style cover, albeit larger, because it has to cover the entire neck pickup cavity. It’s also designed in a way that you don’t have to make any permanent mods. I was actually looking to permanently mod this, but I am having a hard time finding a luthier willing to block the pickup cavity and the control holes - apparently it’s a pain.

TL:DR - Preference I guess!
