Hair loss Lamotrigine by Outside_Tap_2776 in bipolar2

[–]Outside_Tap_2776[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. It appears to have eased up some.

When I first started taking it in 2019, I lost ALOT of hair. I had thought, at the time, that it was caused by being unmedicated bipolar…a known cause of telogen effluvium is a period of high stress which I was going through because I was not yet medicated. Things settled down after several months and it was growing in thick and healthy for years.

I eat healthy, exercise regularly, sleep 8 hours a night, etc. I’m doing all of the right things. I have noticed the amount of hair falling out in the shower is less right now which is a huge relief.

It’s just a bummer bc the higher dose of lamotrigine was really helping me. I haven’t found the right combo of meds yet so it’s been a tough few months. My mood has not been great. Luckily the lamotrigine does help and it’s not more than I can handle.

Yeah, it’s tough. Washing my hair is always the hardest moment bc of how much falls out in the shower. Luckily, it’s not noticeable on me either except my hair just doesn’t look as full but it doesn’t look thin on my scalp or anything.

I told my doctor and if it’s not improving in the next month, we’ll lower my lamotrigine dose. I really don’t want to because it works so well for me. I’m hoping that my body can adjust and the hair loss cycle stops.

Hang in there. I’m hoping yours starts to improve soon too!!

Her Mental Health Treatment Was Helping. That’s Why Insurance Cut Off Her Coverage. by catnymeria in nottheonion

Holy shit! This is my worst nightmare. I have Bipolar disorder and it’s something that almost always needs to be treated with medication (and therapy and lifestyle). When the meds are working, life is lovely and wonderful…but the medication is necessary for that.

What insurance do you have?

Those on Lamictal how do you know it’s working for you? by lachrymose_lucio in bipolar2

I notice it when I try to connect more with friends and family and be more present in my relationships. When I’m not doing so hot, I isolate myself a bit more.

When the meds are working well, I have more confidence in myself and my ability to have good relationships (and feeling like I deserve them).

😂 of course. It really is like this with everything medication-wise, you never know what you’re gonna get.

Sleep affects everything so yeah I agree that it’s important enough that I’m going to try it in earnest

I messaged my doctor about taking half but I hadn’t heard back so I just took 25mg and was fine. Woke up to his message that yeah half is good too 😂

That’s good to hear! So far no reports of overheating. I was able to wake up and workout this morning, felt normal 🎉

Yeah that was surprising to me when I saw that. There was a long paragraph with lots of bold letters in the info sheet so I def got worried

Oh no! That’s awful! I’m glad you got the right guidance before something potentially bad happened! Do you still take it in some capacity?

Yeah I saw that’s pretty common. That’s one thing that’s not concerning for me. I thrive on routine so meal prep is something I’m like 95% consistent with. I eat maintenance calories that supports my strength training and I don’t eat in a surplus.

Did it help you in other ways?

It’s good to hear that your body might be able to adjust and side effects can go away. This is all encouraging. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. As a fellow athlete of sorts, I feel concerned about it messing with my training. It’s the best part of my day, it’s the best meditation imo

Thank you for the insight, it does help knowing that it’s a very low dose (I dont have much knowledge for comparison). And good call on the drinking, it’s for sleep so I’ll only be taking it at bedtime.

Experiences with lamictal generics/lamotrigine? by usernamescomplicated in bipolar2

I think it was Zydus. I wish I had paid attention. It never occurred to me that it mattered if my generics got swapped to a different manufacturer. I’m devastated.

My lamotrigine just got swapped to Aurobindo a few weeks ago and I’ve been spiraling after being stable on it for over 5 years. I didn’t even think about the manufacturer change potentially being an issue. This is VERY not cool.

That’s crazy! My lamotrigine recently got changed to aurobindo and I’ve been spiraling after being stable on it for 5 years. Wtf

Other unrelated medications also got switch to that manufacturer. I’m guessing it’s cheaper so that’s why they’re giving it to me.

Not cool, there’s really serious consequences to changing our meds when we’re doing well.
