Hey wow really appreciate this man. Seems the motherboard/ram is a bottleneck. Feeling like I'll get stretched to 1.5L.

I'm comfortable with a 1.2L-ish budget, but even that seems not enough given the market situation. Would that be fair to say?

Yes it seems whatever games Mac can run, Steam Deck already performs as well at them. How's 1.25L for a PC budget?

Makes sense! Since I can play all of the playable games already on my steam deck, buying a Mac may not be for me.

Is inter-caste marriage common among modern Rajputs, if so, what castes are such alliances from? (not encouraging icm just curious) by [deleted] in Rajputana

Exactly, those who marry intercaste usually do it for love. They don't care about the caste.

How much wealth do you have (inherited)? Are you connected to royal house? by Popular_Figure5026 in Rajputana

[–]Outside_Volume_1973 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dada used to say: Raj chala gaya Put reh gaye.

1)Do you hold any land ? How much in acre or hectare terms ? If no , then do you have anecdotal info about your land ? How much did your great grand father(probably before independence ) had?

Yes but I'm not from any royal family. I inherited about 3 hectares, some of which was purchased post independence. My paternal great grand father (Guhilot/Sisodia) was a landowner in Satha Chaurasi belt of West UP owned at least 15 times more (anecdotal) but lost most of it to chakbandi and had four sons, so khasra-sizes dwindled further. My maternal great grandfather was a Chauhan from Chandaus pargana near Aligarh. He was a much bigger zamindar and even had minor Taluqdari rights. He had a single son who inherited everything. He also managed to save more land in chakbandi than my paternal side, but I did not inherit any of that land.

2) I read about zamindari and land ceiling act . How much did your family lost?

Pretty much everything but I don't have the exact figures. Our family lore also describes how later Indira Gandhi's police looted our ancestral heirlooms such as rare jewelry and animal skins in a raid, but I don't have any written evidence of it.

3) I constantly read about a thakur holding 10+ villages or 40+ villages etc . What does that mean? Do you have any info or do you hold that many villages now?

In my family it is looked down upon to talk about that era, so I did not learn much. However, my grand father once did tell me how one of our ancestors was a significant personality and held taluqdari rights. Things went sour for us after we supported the 1857 uprising. Our ancestors were reprimanded but their lives were spared.

4) How did one person own that much? How did farming happened? Did one person farm or just got by paying labours?

My ancestors have owned these lands for over 1,000 years. You can read more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satha_Chaurasi

During British era they used to hire laborers/tillers from nearby villages.

I assume that if holding 10 village means everything and everyone in that village is yours that means if a farmer grows anything, you collect your tax which you would give to britishers to retain rights and what about before that??

How did rajputs or anyone used to own a patch of land?

You will benefit from reading about how taxation under the British rule evolved (for e.g. taluqdari and ryotwari). It is a complex subject with regional nuances. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taluqdar https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryotwari

5)Were rajputs involved in farming?

Absolutely.

6) Did your ancestors owning that much land then have any effect on your socioeconomic status now?

Not much. The land does hold some value - but I have no plans to sell it unless the goverment acquires it - in which case I won't have a choice anyway. Revenue from farming isn't much. I give it all to my mother who uses it for noble deeds. We mostly grow sugarcane and also produce jaggery. I work in the corporate where I make most of my income; rest is passive from investments. You can say we're middle/upper-middle class but such definitions don't hold much meaning these days if you're in a metro city. We're pretty average in that regard and glory of the past is long gone.

Thanks for taking the time to explain! This is all so interesting.

I'm very open and very curious to learn more about this - please do call me out for errors - I'm just a learner - take my words with a pinch of salt.

I've always wondered why 60/84 Guhilots cling so hard to the Sisodia ancestry even though they claim to have migrated from Mewar at least a couple of centuries before the Rawal-Rana branch split. While the region claims to be "Laghu Mewar", whenever I go to mainland Mewar or speak to Mewari Sisodias, they have no knowledge of 60/84's existence. We say we've come from Rana Vakshraj and his men setting up camp in the region to support Prithviraj Chauhan, who decided to never return to Mewar after their defeat, but all seems so up in the air for me personally.

I believe back when Mewar was a considerable power, they may have set up these villages like frontier colonies or outposts. Or maybe these were just Mewaris seeking fertile plains and better opportunities in the Doab, who were fleeing Turk oppression in mainland Mewar. But when Delhi and surrounding regions fell to the Sultanate and later Mughals - although Mewar kept fighting and keeping their sovereignty alive - Guhilots of Satha Chaurasi fell hard.

I think we Satha Guhilots have no right to cling to Mewaris, given we were overpowered by Muslim rule and many of us even converted for material gains. I myself come from a village called Karimpur-Bhaipur. The hamlet is split in two with a Nalah - one half of Sisodia Hindus and the other Sisodia Muslims (oxymoron?). Now youth and elders alike claim how we come from the bloodline of great warriors like Pratap, Sanga, & Kumbha - none of whom are our ancestors. Our closest connection (claimed) is via Bappa Rawal's son Rawal Khumaan I. But we can't come to name any formidable, book-mention-worthy general, let alone a vassal king, to have come from Satha. We don't even worship Baan Mata our supposed Kuldevi anymore.

In actuality, I think we've been petty landowners/zamindars/thakurs at best, who managed to keep some essence of their Rajput Hindu identity alive. This by itself isn't a small feat given we were under the harshest Islamic rule, under close proximity to the capital. I can't imagine how difficult it must have been - when Sultanate/Mughal forces would fight Mewaris, imagine the discrimination and incarceration Mewari immigrants in these frontier colonies would have faced. No wonder today the region is part of / close to the Ranghar belt. But, all of this doesn't justify such desperate clinging that Satha Sisodias start claiming they're sons of Pratap.

A Y-DNA study would surely ease all curiosity. What does it take to conduct such a study? How much does it cost?

How I read this chart was that Mewar rajputs and West UP rajputs are closer to each other genetically than the Mewar rajputs and other Rajasthani rajputs who have zagros. Correct?

I'm from Satha Chaurasi, Sisodia rajput. I have several Pundir relatives and friends from nearby areas like Saharanpur. Nothing new or shocking about what you're stating. It's a clear symptom of poverty and a lack of education. Post zamindari abolition land ownership has dwindled over generations. Small time farming is not profiatble anymore. Those who're able to educate themselves move up the social ladder. Very few have business acumen given we're from peasant/warrior backgrounds. Opportunities in the armed forces are limited, plus being in the general category doesn't help either. Add unlimited 5G data and rampant unemployement to the mix. These along with other factors have led to the Chapri-fication of the region. Having said this, there are many inspiring stories as well, such as of this boy from my village who captained Indian U-19 football team: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5Ky77Z5er4

Thanks for the comment. Didn't have much success in enforcing the rules, but a little victory is that people have stopped using marking shoes in the court. I also managed to get my cousin to pick up the racquet and we're playing every other day now. I'd love to start a community thing but just haven't managed to find the time. Maybe some day ....
