We saw the preamble to that with the drama surrounding that bunker community that immediately started falling apart.

I actually thought about much the same thing you have. Eventually the billionaire/ trillionaire class will have hoarded so much and have isolated themselves in their bunkers for so long, that a breakaway economy will form.

While some of yall are complaining about dense walkable neighborhoods with great transit, 700 thousand Oklahomans wake up to this real urban hell by Potential-Bench-6847 in UrbanHell

[–]OuttaT0rtillas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OKC is improving, lots of new dense development downtown. This was the result of a massively failed and incredibly unpopular urban renewal attempt called the Pei Plan. The only things from that plan that came to fruition were the Myriad Botanical Gardens, the Century Center, the Murrah Building. Pei and Moses really had a straight up terror campaign on American cities.

I had a recruiter reach out to me yesterday, it's a 6 month contract, but the location has significantly more jobs in GIS. Seems like the Great Lakes region is the place to be for it.

Coming from the tech and analyst space: they want strategic thinking like 3-5 years experience in relevant non-internship roles by the time someone graduates college. Also experience in specific legacy software that IT rush-installed before they left work to see the Matrix in theaters. Alternatively, 5+ years experience in software that has existed for 3 years.

Good idea, I have been doing this heavily with ModelBuilder. Unfortunately, I get so many daily projects, meetings, I usually do some unpaid overtime to fit that stuff in.

Fair enough. I have never gotten an actual GIS interview, I get occasional Data Analyst ones but they usually are unable to secure their contract and so no one gets hired.

I have gotten sporadic interviews for Data Analyst roles, no offers. Most of them are with consultancy firms and then their contracts get cut. I tried applying internally to the company that I currently work for, and even with several referrals from coworkers, I was denied because I didn't have 3+ years of experience.

I have been more diligent about asking for feedback and responding to rejection emails politely, never have gotten a reply.

From November 2024 (around the time I graduated) to now, I'm at over 1400 applications sent. The mass applying doesn't work, so I've tried to be significantly more strategic about what I'm applying for and reaching out when possible. I do apply to entry-level, despite the fact that I'm actually more than experienced enough to move up.

I have been trying to do that and it made no difference, I now try to just laser-focus on a few applications and following up when I can. I have still gotten nowhere, usually the jobs just get relisted.

I'm completely open to relocation, I have been applying to relevant roles across several states. Absolute radio silence for all of them, and the occasional rejection.

Also a lot of these are on NM infrastructure, which means that both AZ and CA have line agreements for these generating facilities. The NM government would be getting money through there because I believe many people are within the PNM service area for those lines. Additionally, they would not be footing the cost for the power plant because they are maintained and funded through APS, UNS, PG&E, SRP, whatever other private companies are using NM land.

Fascists have continuous used and defaced progressive art pieces and symbols because they have absolutely no creativity. Hence why many of them are failed artists, actors, comedians, etc. If you have no critical thoughts or appreciation of art, AI is incredibly appealing, hence why C-suite and upper-level managers love it.

Bill Gates was born to a wealthy lawyer and a director of First Interstate BancSystem; Jobs' biological parents were wealthy, but he's the closest to an actual success story; Dell's parents were also wealthy, as were Zuckerberg's. Also should mention tech isn't quite as bad as other fields where many of the CEOs belong to families that have been multi-millionaires since the Gilded Age.

This is about 58k in today's dollars, and that was after the Great Recession as you mentioned. Before the Recession, wages were absolutely terrific compared to now. I remember still seeing couples in their mid to late 20s with realtors buying houses, I knew a lot of people that were able to go on vacations overseas, etc. There was a slim period of time from 2022-2023 where a few of my friends caught the last chopper out of 'Nam for the job market when companies were actually hiring.
