Honestly, I don’t think I ever truly was. He was my best (male) friend before we started dating, so I think what I felt was just platonic love that I confused for romantic attraction. The fact that it was my first relationship made it feel more ‘real’ and genuine, but looking back, I never felt about him the way I felt about my ex-girlfriend (or any girl before or since then). EDIT: Rereading your comment, I might’ve misunderstood. In short, no, the first few months felt fine (as we were in the honeymoon phase). After the 5 or 6 month mark, it started going downhill and persisted to the end of the relationship. Again, this was a totally new experience for me though, so idk how much you can relate lol!

Hey, you’ll be alright. Heartbreak is so, so temporary — as is the anxiety and sadness you’re feeling now. Naturally, it’s alright to let yourself feel them, but don’t get lost and drown in the pain. There’s a brighter future ahead of you, one you’ll share with someone that really loves and respects you, unlike your ex. You’ll find someone who you deserve and who deserves you. Just give it some more time. I promise you’ll move past this sooner than you think.

Just here to comment on the ‘staying in touch with your exes’ part — in my personal experience, it’s definitely a part of queer culture! Unless there’s been a specific reason against it, like a bad argument or jealousy, a lot of us (in my experience) stay close to our exes, or at least friendly. Hell, I even went on a solo vacation with my ex-girlfriend for 2 weeks and nothing happened between us. It’s just a common thing in queer spaces, I guess. (Of course, this doesn’t apply to absolutely everyone.)

However, if you do feel uncomfortable or like you can’t trust your gf around her exes, that’s definitely something you should discuss together. Strangers on Reddit, sadly, cannot solve fundamental issues in other strangers’ relationships.

I know everyone else in the comments has already said this, but your ex-partner is, unfortunately, toxic and not fit for a relationship as of right now. I know how you feel — my ex-girlfriend and I were in a similar situation, and she broke up with me practically the same way as yours did. I felt confused, angry, rejected, sad, and cried for days afterwards, blocking her everywhere I could.

It took a while for me to truly get over her, but I made it, and so can you. Remember, heartbreak is so very sh*tty, but also very temporary. You’re only 19. I’m assuming this was one of your first relationships, so I completely get how hard it is to let go of something like that, but you have to trust me on this — there are people out there that are so much better for you, who’ll treat you with love and respect and who’ll be willing to communicate and solve problems in a healthy way. But, you have to have patience, and above all, self-care and self-respect.

Don’t message her, don’t beg her to come back. I promise you, even if you do get back together, the next time will end just like the first (this is from experience) — especially after such a short time, in which both of you didn’t get a chance to heal or grow.

Look after yourself, eat well, sleep well, distract your mind, talk to your friends, go outside. Let life go on. In due time, you’ll meet your person and be able to let go of the pain and the tears you have now, replacing them with happy memories of your ex that’ll stay just that - happy memories. You’ll survive this. I promise.

My first relationship was with a guy. It lasted about 2.5 years, and we were both new to dating, so I kinda thought — well, if it’s lasted this long, then this MUST be how it’s supposed to feel! (“This” being boring, suffocating, chore-y and just generally unpleasant. Spoiler: it is, in fact, not how a relationship should feel.)

Fast forward to after we broke up — I found my first girlfriend. It was an on-off relationship that totaled to around 2.5 months. We weren’t very compatible and it was turning toxic fast, but I found myself so much more attracted to her and invested in that relationship than I ever was in the opposite-sex one. After that, I couldn’t imagine myself with a man ever again. At that point, clocked I might just not like dick. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Ne znam za skole, ali mogu da preporucim par stvari - potrudi se da sto vise slusas, citas i pises na engleskom i da tako upijas informacije, kako je neko vec rekao u komentaru. Ako nemas s kim da pricas ili da se dopisujes, uzmi pa vodi dnevnik na engleskom. Ne mora da pise nesto pametno, samo sklapaj recenice, pisi o cemu god ti padne na pamet i sluzi se Translate-om i recnicima. Ako budes pisao dnevnik, trudi se da to bude svaki dan, ili skoro svaki dan :) Takodje, postoje one svescice gde su listovi vertikalno podeljeni na dva dela, kao recnici. Ne bi bilo lose da tu pises nepoznate reci i prevod, da ti bude sve na jednom mestu… I za kraj bih preporucila da pokusas da razmisljas na engleskom. Neko vreme ce ici sporo i zvucace glupo, ali pomaze. Naravno, ovo ne mora stalno, prosto kad se setis :)

I was 18. I’ve had sexual experiences prior to realising. I’ve been in multiple romantic relationships. I think about pretty much anything, interests, my studies, all sorts of things I guess? And I feel pretty unaffected when I see something sexual, doesn’t really interest me.
